Highline Road - Seton Portage - Mission Pass - Sept 08

So over the Sept long weekend. Me and the Girl decided to head on up to do the Highline Road. I Heard nothing but good things about it from a co-worker for about a month and figured it would make a excellent Delica adventure. Well, it was pretty epic to say the least. It gets a high recommendation from me and easily do'able in a stocker 4wd Delica. The views are simply priceless. Seton Portage to Vancouver, going through the Pembo and Whistler takes about 2.5hrs assuming flawless traffic. You can make in a day drive or so, but we decided to camp out. Enjoy!

Cheers!

PS: There's more shots from the trip located HERE. Check'em out.

Off we go! Leaving Vancouver
Image

Uh, So were are we going anyways? Better let the girl have the map.
Image

Sweet... after driving up and down 'mainstreet' in D'arcy a few times, we find the Portage road.
Image

Start of the Highline Road. Leaving D'arcy. (the road goes off to the left)
Image

The view looking back at D'arcy. It was a touch steep getting up to this point.
Image

Continuing on-wards and up-wards!
Image

At the first bridge crossing. Stopped for actions shots.
Image

Bridge #1 Action shot!
Image

Well... Look what we found here... The sign says 9tons. Time to scout it out.
Image

Here's looking back. Funny thing is that when I crossed it on foot, I could feel the bridge move oh-so-slightly under my massive 195lbs, which is over top of a older burnt out bridge, which is in turn over top of a 50ft ravine. *thumbsup*
Image

... less thinking, more driving!
Image

Here's a rather nice pile of rocks, near a lookout point.
Image

The view from said lookout! (torwards D'arcy)
Image

The view from camp at the end of day 1
Image

Setting up camp on the end of day 1
Image

Sweet a train! Needs more horn.
Image

Off we go on the start of day 2. Back on the highline.
Image

The view from mid drive. The Delica is in full force
Image

The view from mid drive #2
Image

Interesting sign placement...
Image

Now entering downtown Seton Portage.
Image

Here's the Seton Portage visitor's center. An old train car and a welcoming sign
Image

Must be where BC gets it's power. These things are almost big enough to drive the van though
Image

Now it's off to the top of Mission Pass!
Image

Sweet. Lillooet isn't that far. *ignores the sign below*
Image

Looking back at the top of the Mission Pass from the Nosebag FSR
Image

Delica FSR action shot. Nosebag FSR had some pretty epic views.
Image

Not bad. This could be alot worse.
Image

Now heading east from the top of the Mission Pass. This pic looks back towards Seton Portage and D'arcy.
Image

*scratches head* Hmmm... I wonder what happens when the Altimeter goes above 2km and into the orange lines...
Image

On the way back to the Mission Pass peak. Nice little sun shower caught us.
Image

The Mission Pass grade: 14% over 8km. I'll rate this a steep.
Image

Back at the Camp site... looking up from the tracks. End of Day 2

Cool pictures, Freestyler ~ a very nice documentation. How stable was that bailey bridge? It look pretty long with out supports. Out of curiosity, how did you get 34 pix into one posting?

Falco.

Hey, how come you didn't stop by for coffee!? :-) coulda shown you the way to the Microwave. Definitely not for the faint of heart, but a favorite local 4x4 spot. Alpine territory.

If it were me, I'd say it needs more cowbell! I love the cowbell!

My guess is the pics are hosted on another site (like Flicker), and he just linked them to here using the Img button above the message body. I think it's when you upload / attach files to this site using the file button below the message body that you are limited to 7 pics.

The shot of the altimeter is about 500m from the 2nd tower location. I was tempted to go past it to the other ridge/peak, to see if that 'washed' part of the road on the backside of the peak of actually impassable. But it was getting late and I proceeded to wuz out hard. haha

Actually they are hosted by none-other than the Delica.ca photo/album uploader: And as mentioned, on the picture when your viewing, right click - copy link location... put that link into IMG tags and presto!
