Advanced modification page

Post by patty »

It would be cool if in the profile you could type in what mods you have done to your deli. Then when your in the modification page and you wanted to see how many people had lifts or WVO kits you could just see a umber or all the members names. Then you could PM specific people and what not. Would be cool to see whats the most popular mods. cranked tortions, actually lift(blocks or suspension), WVO kits, trailor hitch, new gauges, stereo/speaker,roof rack. That kind of stuff for example.

Great thoughts Patty!

The only hitch is that alot of the features you mentioned (e.g., searching members by mod) would require some programming (as a non-programmer myself, I'd probably do more damage than good!!!)

If anybody knows of a pre-exiting mod (written for phpBB3) though let me know.

I think this falls in with the phpgarage package proposed earlier, perhaps time to hassle the developers again?

Good thought Green1

Looks like the PHP Garage mod is getting close to "release stage"

What would be very cool and useful would be to have a Index for the mods. So you'd have "flooring", opening the page would give you a list of links or various flooring modifications. Flooring, EGR, Lift, Intercooler, Lights and so on.

That way it would be so much easier to see at a glance what people have already done for the project you're thinking of doing.

It's already on my list to have a closer look at phpgarage. Still not sure if it's a good idea to integrate it at the moment, cause' it is still beta and I don't want to deal with bugs for now. So far it runs stable in our test environment, but need to work on it a little bit longer.
If there is no major disadvantage I try to incorporate it in the new site for sure. Then it would be possible to see all modifications on one place (if all members fill out the new forms, which I doubt)

Good thought Delicat --

We'll need to wait until the available software options catch up abit.

As mentioned by Felix, PHP Garage is still "developmental" software. Until it evolves into a stable release, I'm not quite willing to take the risk in modifying this board.

so is gmail, that doesn't stop millions of people from using it...

the word "beta" has evolved over the years, it used to mean the developers weren't ready to release it yet, it seems however to have changed in meaning and now means "we don't provide a warranty"

Sorry, but you can not compare it. The word "beta" in Web 2.0 applications is not the same as "beta" of a single developer coding project. If you incorporate beta code in a complex website you are most like have to update it (manually) every time a new release comes out, also your user will discover probably little errors you have to deal with. It just get more complicated.
If user discover any errors in gmail, many professional developers are on hand and react most time instantly.

have you asked the developers of this application what THEY mean by beta?

keep in mind I have seen this application working quite sucessfully on other sites, so saying it just isn't ready bsed soley on the "beta" moniker sounds a bit naive to me.

You can read the developer notes if you want to know more about the remaining issues.
If you have seen it working quite successfully (I did too) doesn't mean it was easy to implement it.
