Wheel lock light

Hi Folks,

My wheel lock light is not illuminating when I lock my hubs. I know they are locking because I can hear it. I changed the bulb assuming this was the issue, apparently not. Any ideas as to what may be causing it?

There is a sensor that lights that lamp. May be damaged or disconnected. Not sure if it's on the transfer case or the forward differential. Check with ccautos or enviroimports.

There is also a wire that can break in the bundle of wiring from the transfer case in to the cab. Gumdrop did this last winter; the light would flicker on and off randomly, but would never come on when I was actually in 4WD. Like you, I could hear the hubs go in, and feel the different steering and the characteristic sure-footed AWD handling.

As Hazel came with perma-locked hubs she has no wheel lock lamp. She does have a 4x4 engaged lamp, but that flickered and died a few minutes after we first put her in 4x4. No intentions of getting it fixed though, as for me the little green light is irrelevant. Nice to have everything in working order, to be sure, but as long as the hubs and the transfer case are working all's well. Keeping track of the hubs and transfer-case positions are just part of the captain's job! "We don't need no stinkin' indicator lamp!" Never missed it for a second.

Hey Brewskie,

Check the picture posted by DOC savage, it shows the wire near the transfer case that usually severs. This should fix your dash light problem.

Here is what I have noticed. When I moved the shifter in to 4H, it took a little bit for it to finally light up the green light which indicates 4WD. The wheel lock light never did light up. Could this be a light for an axel lock option? I know I don't have a locker, but I'm curious if maybe the light is in the dash cluster even though the option is not present. While driving in snow on the weekend, the 4Wd was definately working, but like I said the only functioning light was the green 4 wheel symbol.
