Parts in Alberta?

Oh, hi. I'm in the process of selling my VW syncro, and am hoping to get a delica in the very near future. One thing that kind of scares me is the availibility of parst/service in Alberta. Anyone have experiance trying to hunt down items? I know I'll be needing a block heater right quick if I do get a deli.

most standard parts are available off the shelf at places like NAPA (filters, belts, brake pads, block heater, etc)
anything more complex can be sent from one of our amazing Delica.ca member shops in BC (like Amazing Auto Imports, CC Autos, or Rocky Mountain imports) all of them are cable of sending things courier express overnight if it's urgent.

Whereabouts in Alberta are you? Calgary is starting to have a reasonable number of Delicas, and we've got a trustworthy garage (Kirkham) who can do a lot of the work that is usually needed. Both Green1 and I are in Calgary, Robinimpey is in Strathmore, RMK is in Banff(?), so there is lots of willing-to-help expertise here too.

There are quite a few RHD vehicles in Edmonton, but not too many Delicas that we hear about

I'm in edson, so EDM would be a closer alternative. It is good to know that essentials can be grabbed local. After reading some of the postes, I was getting the impression that everything from belts to filters were special order.

most of it is available locally, but you can't walk in to a store and say "I need X for a Delica" they'll look at you like you have horns or something.
You have to give a part number, but those are all available on this wonderful forum :)

I've never had a problem with numerous parts - until recently. Last March when replacing the balance belt we noticed a scratch on a sleeve that fits over the end of the silent shaft. As it was leaking oil at that location, my associate that was doing the work decided to machine a new one from a risk pin. Good idea, but it didn't work. So now I have another oil leak in the same place. This time I want to find an OEM or factory part, so far I have drawn a blank with the most usual sources: RMI and C.C. Autos. After all it is a fairly small and obscure part, of which there are many on any vehicle.

I'm not complaining, nor is it unexpected. I'm simply telling this story as an illustration of the odd wrinkle you must be prepared to face. I will now have to turn to other sources, perhaps in Japan, to address the problem. These problems can be sloved I expect, but in some cases you'll need more patience than others.

Edit: Just for the record, there are now 3 Deli's in Banff, a couple in Canmore, another around Cold Lake, etc. Just the one's I know of. So they are propagating in Alberta every day. I'm guessing only 10% or so of Deli owners frequent this forum (which makes me wonder who does all their work). I can't imagine how I would have accomplished much without this forum.

Thanks for the suggestion. Turns out our supplier in Japan is going to find the parts and ship them to me. Now I just have to find the right piece out of this diagram, which I'll post here in case it helps someone that needs the Mitsu part numbers from Japan..
