courtesy honk = gangbanger road rage !!

Post by fishslapper »

At about 11:30 am on thursday i pulled up behind a red dodge charger station wagon with limo tint ,really dirty ,and front driver side quarter panel damage ! I was heading east on frasier hyway at about 140th street or so.

Anyway. The light turned green and the car just sat there as all the other traffic had driven away down the road. I thought maybe the person was broken down or just really old or searching around on the floor for a c.d. or something. I thought i would just give a quick courtesy "toot toot" with the old horn so the person would wake up or signal me around the vehicle if there was a problem.
I had waited a long time.........i drive a delica i am not really in a hurry most of the time.

This is where the story gets really ugly !!

The person then started across the intersection real slow. Basicaly just took the foot of the break and let it coast across the inersection. AT this point the cars were flying past on te left and i could not get around. I drove behind this person for a bit until i could get a chance to pass.... So i pulled into the left lane the person gunned the gas pedal to match my speed opend the driver side window and procceded to through a chain out of the window which hit my front windshield with a huge bang !! he then slammed on the brakes to come up beside me and started screaming

"you don't know who you are f---ing messing with a--hole i will f---ing kill you !!! let's go right now ! you don't know who you are f---ing with !!!! "

White male low twenties hat on sideways black gangbanger jacket etc......etc.....Looked like he was on drugs /bi-polar or both !!

luckily he would not let me pass him. He did not have enough brain cells in his head to let me get ahaead of him !! good thing becase i would rather be behind a psycho then in front of one !!
All i could think of was that i had nothing in my van to throw at him and i was planning on driving to the nearest police station if i had to. I did not have a cell phone and i was so freaked out that i was not able to get a licence plate number. I can see how it is possible to blank out things when you are in fight or flight mode.

eventually he had to pull away from me because traffic was behind him. Once a few car got behind him i pulled into the same lane he was in and dropped back a loooooooooong way.
i did not want to be stuck at a red light behind this clown who probably had weapons of some sort. he finally pulled right onto 168th street and drove off.So.......if you have a baby blue delica and live in langly surrey cloverdale area watch out !! this drug dealer might think you are me and try to kill you.

 :o  :o

This is where I say: Delica is a well engineered vehicle but one component is definitely missing, a built-in machine gun. I consider it a design flaw.

But seriously, couldn't you give the police a description of the vehicle, sounds kind of distinctive and a good description of the driver, they could be on the lookout for him couldn't they?

Possibly naive in Victoria!

Don't let it get to ya fishslapper, it's that poor sad, angry bastard's internal issues, not your courtesy "toot-toot" Guys like that are just lookin' for reasons to go off. And judging by that behaviour he's not going to last long - If it's not him "messin' with the wrong guy" himself (your deli might of been full of real gang-bangers angerier than him...) that kills a guy like that it's bursting a blood vessel in a raging hissy-fit.
And I'm with kb&2dogs - If ya got a plate number and call the law - I suspect they'd want to have a talk with some kid chuckin' chains at other cars in a road rage. What a jerk.

I saw a vehicle (mid-size SUV) do a similar thing at a green light this afternoon in North Burnaby. When the light went green he just sat there, then just before it went yellow he crept across the intersection.

I can't imagine what this is supposed to accomplish.

It must be the 'festive' holiday season. I can't believe how much stink eye has been thrown around the commute the last couple of days! :o

Fishslapper - happy to hear that situation didn't escalate beyond what it did - I once had a psycho follow me for over an hour until I spied a police station and drove in like I was going through a drive through. Yikes!

lol.

I've experienced one incident of road rage where a guy got out his car and was yelling at me. Not pleasant. Drink some tea and go for a run. That'll help :-)

It's usually a tactic to lose a tail: drift through the intersection slowly enough for the tail to not be able to make it through the light. Of course, this only what I know from the movies...

I vote to pull into a firehall when weirdos around, as the firefighters are always visibly there. Whereas the cop stations are behind locked doors and no easy public access.

Carry a can of Wasp Spray (that brags about how far the spray will propel) or hairspray (that does not brag about how it doesnt affect ozone -- you wnat those CFC's to propel the liquid), sprays work good on the attackers eyeballs, and isn't a weapon (but careful to just open your window a little).

Keep Safe, christine.

Sounds like he started it on purpose. Even an idiot like that can recognize that he was sitting at a green light, and would probably just flip you one and do a burnout. His actions say that the entire event was planned.

I will admit i'm a bit of a road rager. Not so much when people get upset with me, if i was wrong i know it, i even wave, give the courtesy 4 way flash or something else nice. However I let it get to me when people don't obey rules that are so simple, not learning to merge, not signalling, pulling onto a street without waiting for a proper gap, going after your advance left turn has long expired, 3rd and 4th car to turn left when a light turns yellow. They suck, and I let them know with my horn and my high beams. By the way folks, your hazard lights do not allow you to just stop anywhere, not in a no stopping zone, not double parked on a street, and not next to a fire hydrant. I will not live in the city forever.

I am with Adrock, I express myself too in situations he mentioned. I think this is the only way to 1.) lower your blood pressure and 2.) attract everybody's attention to the law violation because RCMP is not there (unlike other civilized and not so civilized countries), cops are busy with radars on highways. My favorite spot for honking is 3rd and Lonsdale in North Van with a 'no left turn' sign. Guess what you get when you honk to the driver trying to turn left when you are stuck behind? Right, a finger!!! I told you, read my post above!

This is weird. I just posted a story about how some guy hip checked me in a junction and driving off. I have experienced rage from people that appear to be directed at my Starwagon, but have generally kept it to myself as maybe I am paranoid and over reacting, &c., and perhaps they just had an argument with their spouse or something. Using one's motor vehicle as a weapon is a serious offence and had a COP witnessed this I would suspect that the driver of your red car would be handcuffed on the hood of his car very fast. I am glad to hear that you are all right.

I had one experience on the north end of the Lion's Gate Bridge where a guy (& his girl) drove from behind, into the oncoming traffic to overtake me and pulled in roughly 18 inches in front of me. I let the accelerator off and gave him a friendly quick flash with the high beams (the kind that hardly light up) as I fell back ~ just to let him know that he had nearly clipped me ~ at which point he slammed on the brakes and displayed a rather pronounced hand gesture. I braked, as I did I also noticed that his girlfriend was now covering her eyes with her right hand. The Miss Lil' Bitchi had a sudden urge to bounce her front wheels up onto his trunk and mount his car. I explained to her that this action could only end in tears and was not sure how she could do that, anyway... but I agreed with her that it would be a cool feature to have . I still like Profister's design flaw idea, maybe with a cool reflective targeting system on the windscreen, you know... the kind that flashes & beeps faster just before you execute a surface to surface rocket....

Having got your wits back I would consider reporting all that you do know to the local RCMP detachment. Maybe the guy has an agenda.

Peace, Falco.

yeah.....thanks for the comments !!
i agree with The posts. This place is out of hand !! I take such pride in my driving and i see crazy things everyday. Just when i think i have seen it all something else happens that makes me shake my head.

4 or 5 cars turning after the light turns red is the best !! They sit in the middle of the intersection 2-3 cars and then go when the light turns red !! Then you have to wait for them so you can go straight.
People turning right from the far left lane....
Blocking intersections when you know you will get stuck in the middle because traffic is not moving.......
Racing up the right lane and then cutting in with no signal when you know the lane is closed for work because of the signs and lights etc.....etc.....
I saw a guy with a huge portfolio book opened up on his lap and steering wheel reading and sorting through the contents driving down frasier highway a few days ago !!

It is not because i am getting older and more mature ,i swear it is getting worse and worse nobody takes any pride in driving correctly.....
I am just glad nothing too crazy has happened (like the gangbanger thing) when my 19 month old has been in the car. I do worry now. "The pinkfingers " I know you know what i am talking about here..... mr. 5 kids !! :-D

Yep, I know what you mean. I don't think you can worry about. Just gotta deal with it calmly if it happens, and explain to your kid(s) after that although we had to deal with him for a few seconds, he has to deal with himself for his entire life, which makes me kind of sad for him. If I had kids in the car, I would roll up the windows, make sure the guy sees me writing down his license plate, and call 911 asap.

My wife is a very good defuser of road rage. Any time she's in the car and we get honked at, she turns to them and smiles and waves like they're old friends. That's usually the end of their anger.

But don't get me started about getting honked at when I'm obeying the law, like the speed limit, or waiting to turn safely.
