What is the safe running temps for WVO? I have read all sorts of things. So far I saw a min of 50C with 75 C being prime and 230 C starting to cause all sorts of issues.
Would like to hear back from you other users of WVO on temps.
Reason i am asking, is now with the cold, am having trouble staying around 70c with highway driving.
I am also having to prime the electric heater after engine warm up and before WVO switch.
Thanks

Canola should be heated above 70c (that's where the viscosity gets down to diesel range) and shouldn't have to be heated much higher then 90c; 230c oil heating is too much and will cause a little polymerization. 90 is nice to aim for, as the oil should still be in the 70's when it hits the injectors.
Do you use a vegetherm? Do you have a thermocouple - if not you should consider one. A 12v oil heater without a thermocouple will continue to heat up even if the flow of fuel stops; wasting 12v juice, may soften fuel hoses to the point of failure and with that create a sudden large amount of gases - not good for the IP and might cause failure of the hoses.
When you say prime the heater, do you mean you switch the vegtherm on before switching to diesel?

Re: Ideal running temp
Yeah, hard to get to 70c with the passive heat filter and elec vegtherm. It tends to stay at 65C. I have a thermocuple set to 130. It is installed on my fuel return side andhas yet to turn off the vegtherm.
I think that I will need a third heat source.
What I meant by priming: I run van for 3-5 min, heat up block. then pull over turn off engine, heat up the vegtherm to 100C and then keep it in Veg.. It usually drops quick to 65-70C. Magic fuel tank temp seems to be above 10C for constant running temp above 70C
