Power windows and a new lower console.

Post by Bessie the Mud Slayer »

Planning to modify my lower console. I need to move the power windows elsewhere, and I want to separate them, (the switches). I thought it would be as easy as removing them and relocating, not so. Quick pop of the plate and I see its a little more than a few toggle switches. The switches are attached to a single block with more than just wires. In talks with a few auto enthusiast friends o mine, we've decided its possible to splice into the existing block, and run wires to new switches. I'd tuck the stock switches away somewhere and, well, bob's your uncle. Anyone here got input or advice?

When you press the stock driver's door switch to its lower position, it stays down until the window is all the way down (or up), then the switch returns to its normal centered position.

Having relocated them in my console, I know they are inseparable, because I wanted to turn the switches around so up would be up and down down.

So there is much more to them than first appears. Not to mention the way too many wires. But someone with a suitable electronics background should be able to figure out the wiring and create new switches. But I'm not sure it would be worth it. Just extending all the wires so you can mount the factory switch somewhere else might be easier.

Just my two cents worth.
