Help!!!

Post by piyeguyo »

Hello there

Last night I went to a party and left the car outside for 7~8 hours forgetting I was in balmy -30 Calgary... And when I realized my mistake, it was too late. The van of course didn't start and I had to leave it outside my friend's house.

Now it's the morning after and I'm not sure what to do. I have AMA so towing the van back home will not be a problem, but how do I revive it? Is it enough to get a boost from the AMA guy and the van will come back to life???

Signed,
Stupid, I mean Fabio

it's now been sitting for far more than 8 hours... a boost won't be enough.

Do you have a block heater of some form? if so, get it plugged in, if not, you'll need some form of heat added, a magnetic oil pan heater, or even a 100w light bulb dropped in the engine compartment might be enough.

If it's a block heater, try boosting it in about 2 hours, if it's one of the other options, wait about 6. you will then need a good boost, either from a friend or from AMA, it will take a lot of juice to get it going though.

(I was also at a party last night, but I only let it sit 4 hours... no trouble starting though, but my experience is that an engine retains some heat, even in these temperatures for up to 6-7 hours)

Kudos for partying 7-8 hours straight!

GL with getting started, if you were in Canmore I could come give you a boost.

Wrap your Starwagon with a great big tarp, take a propane torch and put it under you engine (not touching it but heat rises). I have never tried (nor have I had to) this but I understand that the folk up far north keep this gear in the event that the block heaters fail in the -50 odd degree temperatures that they experience. They also wrap all fuel lines and wires &c. with ABS hose.

If it is anything to go by I started the Miss Lil' Bitchi the first time at -25 and in the brutal Squamish, no block heater.

Falco.
