so today i took the pod cluster apart and opened up the compass circuit board and wrote down all the capacitor numbers (two numbers, Volts and Microfarad's) took the list down to Main electronics and spent about $3 on the 8 or 10 caps and swapped em all, and put it back together....
and the compass works great!!

the thermometer is 50/50, the INSIDE temp seems correct but the OUTSIDE temp shows 63'C ??!?!

i'm not sure where the outside sensor is... anyone??

Capacitors are usually the culprit in older electronics: the dielectric dries up or leaks out. Either way, the capacitor no longer stores charge, which throws off the circuit. Good job. Who's got the gold stars?

Not sure where the outside thermometer is located - don't have one of those pods.

The outside temp sensor is in a little block of rubber right behind the front bumper. I wanna say LHS, but its been a while since I looked at it. In any event, its in the neighbourhood of the protruding cap, toward the center, where the plastic meets the metal, behind there in its little rubber home...

well i've found the "little rubber house" and everythings seems to be in order, i'm up at Big White where it consistently -15 or so. when i turn the ignition on, the inside Temp shows -10'C, and when i change it to outside, it says 60'C..... anyone have an idea what might be going on? maybe one of the Cap's i replaced was overheated and failed when i was soldering them to the board??...... a connection somewhere?


P.S. I'M FRICKIN SICK AND TIRED OF MY LOCKS FREEZING!!!! HAHAHA I'VE GOTTA KEEP A LIGHTER WITH MY KEY AND IT TAKES LIKE 15 MINS. TO GET THE LOCKS OPEN EVERY TIME NEED IN THE TRUCK AHHHH!!!

OK, having been inspired to look at something other than a blank compass screen, I opened up the pod to find a burnt out resistor. I can't read the numbers on it making replacement a little difficult. Any chance somebody still has theirs apart and can tell me some mumbers? The culprit is R15 on the first circuit board X331A942F.

Raule Duke did you figure out why the outside temp is reading 60?

I am not sure what a Delica compass is but my outside temp always shows -30C when it is below 0C; the positive temp readings seem OK though.

I've been meaning to do the 'compass fix' for about a year now. Luckily it's just been to work and back so I haven't gotten lost yet despite not having a compass...

Maybe I'll take a look this weekend since the paj is currently out of commission (alternator is toast) and take a few pics and point out the capacitor values if they're still legible.

I just did my compass. EVERY cap had blown, save one... Now my outside temp seems accurate but my inside temp still reads 'E0', which I'm assuming is some kind of error message feedback. Not sure whether it just means that my sensor is not connected properly or not.
