Wood Steering Wheel
Hello
Just a quick question - if anybody has come across this or given this any thought:
I have a nice wood-steering wheel that I would like to put in our van. The wheel has a universal fit center to which essentially any steering wheel hub could be bolted / mounted....
Now here is the question: How do I get a hub that fits for the delica van without wrecking my original steering wheel? For my other car (1969 Ford Cortina MK2) I actually found an old steering wheel at a car wrecker's and cut out the hub and had it machined with threads so that I could bolt my aftermarket wood steering wheel onto the Cortina hub...
Are other mitsubishi's (i.e. colts, lancers and what have you) that have been available in Canada fitted with the same hub as the Delica? Or in other words, if I were to get a steering wheel from an old Colt or so from the junkyard, could I use this for the van? I once had what they called a Dodge Colt... I assume it was built by Mitsubishi as it looked like one and seemed to last better than an average Dodge compact car would... There are plenty of these suckers still around - and I am sure there are plenty of these also at car wreckers yards...
Any help - if anybody knows something - would be greatly appreciated...
Cheers,
Chris

Thanks for the tip about Mardy - will likely give him a call sometime this week.
For all those of you who have wood steering wheels in your vans - and I've seen a few around so far - how did you install this?
Cheers,
Chris

Yes, apparently Dodge Colt steering wheel adapters work with the Delica

Many thanks for the tips....
I am looking at the ebay lead... If that doesn't work, I'll get a Mitsubishi Colt wheel to use that hub...
Cheers, Chris

Re: Wood Steering Wheel
I know it's been said before but I got mine from Mardy and the install was "Very" simple so if you're fine with Ebay go ahead. But if you're like me and prefer first hand than get in touch with Mardy, last time I was there he still had a few available... Took me 10 min. to install. If you're lucky you won't need a puller to remove your stock steering wheel.... It's on the UK site for how to do it.

Re: Wood Steering Wheel
Just got a reply from the ebay people (pasted below)... they (honestly) admit that their adapter does not work for Delica's which I really appreciate... they could have just claimed that it would fit and care less about the rest... (on top of that they praise the look of my vehicle as I attached an image for clarification on the type of vehicle I need an adapter for...Now that makes them really good people
). Since they appear to be in the states, they probably don't get to see too many Delica's....
So I got in touch with Mardy and will get my adapter some time early next week from him...
Thanks again for all the tips and suggestions...
Cheers, Chris (a.k.a. Bruce....

Hello,
I am looking for a steering wheel hub for a Mitsubishi Delica Van - imported from Japan (JDM) right hand steering.
It's a 1993 Model.... (see picture)... would that steering wheel hub that you are offering also fit this type vehicle?
I am located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
If it fits, what would be my cost for the whole kit and the shipping/handling?
THanks for a quick feedback and kind regards,

Re: Wood Steering Wheel
Not sure why you are making this so difficult for yourself. If all you need is an adapter go to Lordco and get Part No. 3390 Grant Steering Wheel Boss. I have used it and many others.
One thing to watch out for when changing steering wheels is that the new one has a pretty deep dish to it. The stock one has something like a 4" dish on it. If you get one that has a shallow dish on it you will hit you hands on the indicator arm.
I put this wheel on http://www.grantproducts.com/pc-18-3-classic-model.aspx, which has a deep dish and working great.

Re: Wood Steering Wheel
Hi there,
The Grant Classic Series (with the deep dish) is exactly the wheel I have... I also put this one into my Cortina as I like it the best....
Thanks for the tip with the hub / installation kit. I would have never thought that Grant actually offers the very kit to mount these wheels into a Deli.
That's perfect, Thanks
Cheers, Chris

Re: Wood Steering Wheel
Update to this thread. I picked up the wheel noted above, but sadly it was flawed, and the response from Grant was less than hoped for:

So NAPA Canmore is working on bringing this one in from the USA for me. Mark, do you think that a 3" dish will be sufficient?

Details of the bad Grant in the review here.

Re: Wood Steering Wheel
I saw a few nice ones collecting dust at Mardy's office, not sure if he sold them yet but might be worth a try. I have them in both of my Delica and love them!
Cheers.

Re: Wood Steering Wheel
Thanks Delicat,
I'll PM him and see what he's got. At the moment it looks like a 6 week wait to get anything other than the 201 via NAPA. Apparently Lordco has a wider selection of Grant wheels, but unfortunately I don't have a Trade Pricing account with them and retail price at Lordco is not a pretty sight.
However I have gained some further relevant information regarding wheels that is germain to this thread so I will add it here in case it can help anyone in future:

Quote from Grant regarding what wheels will actually fit onto that 3390 adapter boss (this will help you determine which wheels you could use on your Delica:
This is regarding where you can buy their wheels in Canada. It seems like NAPA unfortunately has a more limited selection of which Grant Wheels they bring into Canada. (This is unfotunate, because as you may remember, Canmore NAPA has set up a Trade account for members of the Delica.ca Forum.) Again from Grant:The 3390 kit will accept all Classic, Challenger and Signature wheels (including all our Mahogany styles) with the exception of a few GM special direct bolt-on type products (mainly for older Corvette's). The Heritage and Banjo wheels will fit onto that kit just fine. As for the 966 wheel; that is supplied with the Mustang cap, but we offer a 966-0 that comes with a regular cap (like the 201 wheel); basically this is the same wheel as the 201 but with a stainless steel spoke, hence the increased cost.
Last here is what NAPA can and cannot do just FYI (the following from NAPA):We don't make the rules, but there are certain ones that have to be followed with NAPA as they are a large organization. We can't ship anything to them without a PO from their main office or we get in trouble.
As for telling you about Lordco, you may be correct in that they are only in BC, I am the engineer here and not in sales. I asked customer service for a listing of our Canadian distributors and they supplied me with the names I gave you. There is another distributor in Toronto (Performance Improvements) and one of our US distributors (Keystone Automotive) has a distribution center right at the Canadian border and they ship over to Canada on (I believe) a daily basis out of that location. I don't have an address as we don't ship directly to that location as all our products go to their main warehouse in Pennsylvania and then are disbursed out to their locations by their own trucks.
Oh, and for the record, I'm looking at the 1725 as the best candidate at the moment (pictured above), but it seems to be at least a 6 week wait if they can get it at all. The overall impression I got of the 201 is now such that I don't want to be looking at it for years, the pitted and cracked rivet holes, the thin wheel diameter, sawdust still accumulated in the rear rivet holes, etc., has me rather turned off on the 201 now. I probably shouldn't reveal what our Trade Price on the 201 wheel is for Delica.ca members, but if anyone needs that info feel free to PM me.I ran all of those numbers you gave me 1725,1177,15862,15802,15872,15252 by all of my Grant Suppliers (Napa Balkamp, Mopac, TYA and Grandwest -- I have no access to Lordco) and they are all special order from the USA. If you need to buy one elsewhere, I will gladly refund your money or do whatever I can to make it right. Sorry for any inconvernience and I hope we can continue to do business.
