Insurance issues

Post by elmitcho »

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if any of you had problems getting full insurance (collision) on your delica's. I have been shopping around and decided i might as well contact my insurance company here in calgary (CAA - AMA) to see what the rates would be. They will only cover me with plpd (comprehensive) insurance and NOT collision. is this common (legal?)that insurance companies will do this? I dug a bit deeper and asked them if the reason for this was because of the RHD. He said "Yes, statisically, RHD vehicles are more prone to collisions than LHD," (i asked him at this point where he got that info) "oh, sir, thats done by a government study" And of course he did not know which study it was. Waiting now for a call back on whatever rates they are going to offer me....
just curious to see if anyone else had to go through this..

the "study" they did that said RHD was more prone to accidents was proven wrong.

try another company, some are idiots, some are not.

nice!

thanks rod! ill give em a shout. im actually on the phone right now with another company "hi sir how may i help you?"

i say " id like an auto quote on an RHD vehicle fully compliant"

she says " hold please" been 5 min.. now... ugh

*Edit*

Got the final call from AMA. even their rep was surprised by AMA's reluctance to fully insure a delica. He quoted me comprehensive insurance and said "thats the AMA way"
guess i wont be going that route.

Had success with Johnson Inc. who had a fair full coverage quote that was equal to AMA's comp. only. working on Primmum now... ill keep you guys posted. maybe this thread will be of some help to future owners in the calgary area.

Just in case Primium Insurance doesn't fit the bill, I went with FMA Insurance in Calgary this time last year. Ask for Sylvie or email her.... sambrosino"at"brokerlink"dot"ca - direct number is 403-210-8321
Had me set up in a few hours...

EDIT - Looks like FMA was bought out by Brokerline Canada - anyhow Sylvie said she's happy to help out other Deli owners in cowtown.

I'm with Johnson Inc. I find they have always been significantly cheaper than any other quote I've had. Their service used to be pretty lousy, but seems to have improved recently.
The rep I deal with is Marry-Ann Storey.

The other company that has quoted me reasonable rates on a Delica with no qualms about the steering wheel position is TD Meloche Monex (or simply TD insurance) they quote me every year, however they're always slightly more for me than for Johnson, but that could change with a different driver asking.

And at the other end of the spectrum, the worst one I've tried to deal with was Canadian Direct, they quoted me FOUR TIMES the price that Johnson wanted, (Double what AMA quoted me) and that was only after a 2 day back and forth argument about my JDM VIN number... can't say I'd recommend them...
