Emergency Help: No start

Post by Brandelica Winnipegger »

Hello, again,

So, the van has made it through winter until today. It has been parked outside, plugged in with an oil pan heater and block heater, and started every day no problem.
Today, it turns over as usual, but does not start. It does not ignite at all. I am thinking the glow plugs or glow plug fuse is shot? Please advise a.s.a.p.

Thank you a million,

Brandelica

Just had a Pajero in with the same issue.

the glow plugs assist in cold startup. you can technically start your delica without glowplugs, albeit may take some turning over.

Fuel delivery. take the outlet hose on the filter housing off and pump it. see if fuel come out. If it does, then it's pulling fuel from the tank through the filter which is good. next check the injectors one by one to see if there is a fine spray of fuel coming out. if all four then good. if not, then you may have something clogged along the lines.

in the pajero case, it was some rubber from a deteriorated seal that clogged the outlet line.

one thing I would check is the water drain on the bottom of your fuel filter, I PROMISE you have water in your fuel , as your fuel comes from the tank hits filter with water seperator, then the Injection pump, the diesel is heated, you only use a small portion of this fuel, the rest goes back to the tank, as HEATED FUEL , well you turn off your van and the fuel cools, you form condinsation in your tank and bam water. If you havent drained your water valve on the bottom of the fuel filter , it could be frozen with lots of water inside blocking the diesel from working its way through the system.
I'm sugesting this because its the fastest thing to check, and I used to drive trucks in Manisnowba, and I know how cold Winterpeg gets. so now think how long you have been driving in the winter, how many times you have heated the fuel and then it cools. doesent take alot of water to make an ice block. and its something that should be drained about once a month. well at least I do with my tank and I live in Victoria....
Hope that helps
Noel
