Hey All,
Does anyone know of a roofrack supplier who can supply the extended height supports for a Crystal Lite roof? I know of Rack Attack but I'm hoping I can find them for less than the $300 they quoted. I didn't find anything suitable at Can Tire, I have Thule bars.
Thanks in advance,
Rick

Noel at Enviroimports.com in Victoria makes very nice aluminum one's.
They can support a ton of weight, are beefy and do come at a cost. Pricey but very strong.

Yakima 1A Hi-Rise Raingutter towers will get you way above a crystal lite roof, but won't fit your thule bars.

If you use your imagination and take some initiative it does not have to cost an arm and a leg. There are dozens of sellers on e-bay that somehow seem to get a regular supply of Yakima and Thule racks and towers, etc. You'd probably be best off to start over and get some of the 1a hirise towers, and then go buy the pipe from Home Depot and paint it black for your bars. Then get the rubber chair leg feet to plug the ends. In fact I got the regular towers from eBay, made my own extensions from some stock at work and had this whole rack for about $80.00:

Think I posted the details on this forum about a year ago, including a link to the eBay seller that I use for my rack parts..

Thanks for all the info, I found a supplier in Winnipeg with 8" thule high towers for $140 and free shipping. I hope 8" is enough, I'll let you all know how it worked out.
Cheers,

Re: High Roof Rack Supports
Please be VERY carefull of cross bars that don't COMPLETLY clear the roof, I've had a few customers now that have had to order new Crystal lite glass becuase when the cross bars go across the top of the Delica roof is a DOME shape, highest point in the center. so when the center of the roof is Pressed down and locked in place with the rain gutter, sometimes the flex of the body and roof when going up a steep driveway, or any upward or downward angle on a twist, will Blow out the glass, as the roof isent able to twist the way its designed to.
I've had 3 people now that this has happened to .
and no a 8" clearance will not cover the center of the roof, you will be pressing down on the center, Ive often seen the cross bars pressing down the center of the roof over a full inch, when this gets locked down to the rain gutters, its just a matter of time.....
and NO this is not a scare tactic, its VERY expensive to replace your crystal light glass and replacment crystal lite glass is not easy to come by.

Thanks for this post lads, you just saved me the mistake of buying the 8" risers to try and save some cash. That and finding out the Yakima yak racks aren't the deal they seemed to be. I was given a number for a work van outfitter in Calgary that sells heavy duty gutter mount ladder racks, that are really just crossbars with an extra tab bolted on to stop things from sliding forward under hard braking. I am calling them on Monday, and will post what I find ASAP.

I used Noel's cross rack for the base to my boat loader. It was the best combination of cost and quality. Noel will also add a few custom items like extra length, End caps, and in my case 2 slugs on each end to bolt my rack to. I have no concerns whatsoever about the rack touching the roof.
