The van did it...

Post by impalator »

Drove up to Kamloops on Saturday with the Delica and was a bit worried during the drive... approaching the steep hills up the coke I was staring at the temp-gauge and the turbo-boost almost more than at the road...

The verdict? No Problems... the temp needle never went past 1/3 of the spectrum... We puttered up pretty slow... turning off the overdrive and revving at around 3'000 at around 60 - 65km/h on the steepest parts (after the tunnel going up from hope).

We had a pretty good load in the van (luggage, camping gear, tools, a massive gazebo / screen tent etc.) and not once did I have to worry about overheating...

So I'm pretty happy about that - although the Van has been good since the major repair job I always worried about doing the Coquihalla run again and never took it up to the cabin again until last Saturday... but it appears that it was unfunded....

Have to admit, though, that I removed the skid-plate for that run... just didn't want to take any chances. I guess I'll be putting it back up again come the Fall season with temperatures not approaching the high twenties or low thirties...

Anyway... that's my little story and I'm sticking to it.... :-)

Glad it worked out for ya - though once again I have to defend that skid plate - For sure it has absolutely no bearing on the temp. of the motor - none at all.

Chris, do not worry about a skid plate. Look at my post here: http://www.delica.ca/forum/overheating-3151-15.html
At that time I had the original cooling system which has been replaced in CC Autos later: radiator and a cap, hoses and thermostat. I did not have this fancy skid plate at that time; I have it now. We made a trip to Osoyoos via the same route on Hwy 3 last weekend and the temperature gauge stayed at 9 o'clock all the way.
