For anyone who has questions about traveling to Mexico (particularly the west cost) I do this trip a lot. I have been running up
and down the coast between Sayulita Nayarit (about 40 km north of Puerto Vallarta) and Victoria for 3 years and have driven the
trip 9 times so far. Three of them in my Deli with another 3 on the sched. this summer (moving the family back down). It occured
to me that some people interested in making the trip might have some questions so feel free to contact me and ask them. Saludo's.

Re: Traveling to Mexico?
We have started talking about a doing a trip very similar to what you have done. We have been to Sayulita before and loved it - but flew down.
We will be taking our Delica (we are waiting for it to arrive from Japan) and will be travelling with another family in their VW Syncro and we each have two kids under 4. How long do you usually take to drive down? We will have to do it in segments so that our kids can handle the distance. Any advice for a minimum amount of time to get all the way down to Sayulita, have some time to spend there, and then head back? What is safety like while travelling through Mexico? Any specific time of year that you would recommend making the trip?
Cheers!
Ryan

I thought it would be pretty easy: Washington, Oregon, California, and then Mexico. No?
Okay, where are the COOL spots to see along the way? Personally, I'd like to go to the Salton Sea.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back on this I lost track of it. I do it in anything from 3 days ( 18hrs/ day ) or as much as a weekdelivicki wrote:We have started talking about a doing a trip very similar to what you have done. We have been to Sayulita before and loved it - but flew down.

depending on what I want to see on the way. I would say with smaller kids that you should take a month if you can and my favorite
time of year is April. If you leave on the first you will get there just in time to miss Semana Santa (easter is a BIG deal down there)
and the weather is always great. Travel in Mx is safe and smooth if you don't hang around in places like Tijuana or Laredo. I have never had a problem in all my travels back and forth. A good place to spend the night is in Navajoa which is 10 hours drive north
of Sayulita. Good luck with your trip and if you make it here look me up.Saludo's

I'm going to see the north rim of the grand canyon with my daughter on the return trip this time. That should be pretty cool verdad?mararmeisto wrote:I thought it would be pretty easy: Washington, Oregon, California, and then Mexico. No?

Re: Traveling to Mexico?
Hello all;
Interesting this should come up.
I have been wintering in Mexico for a dozen or so years, and for the last 4 years; 4 hours past Andy's Sayulita. Last year I set up a camera to take a pic every 30 seconds and placed it on the dash. I have a Quicktime movie of my trip from Delta to La Manzanilla in 4 minutes and 52 secs.
Frame by frame it takes a little longer
If there is interest, and someone could tell me how, I could upload it (573mb)

Hola, John,
We're planing our 3rd Deli trip to La Manzanilla for January. We have favourite campspots, but like to explore too.
I'd love to see your video!

Hey DeliTan,
That would be a great video to see!
Have you tried uploadting it to Youtube? 5min is under their limit, but I'm not sure if 573mb is over their limit though...

Re: Traveling to Mexico?
Lets see if this works...
This is from the dash of my bus (ex-greyhound not Deli) over a period of 5 or 6 days. As you can see, For most of the trip I am following friends in their motorhome.
