Emergency!! Dvr side window needed so we can get home!!!

Post by Body File »

In kind of a bind here,

we are just finishing up a great trip from North alberta to the sunshine coast. its our last night before we head back and our little Jasper just got broken into!

The 30ish caucasian lady, bc lic plate 234 HNS, smashed my side window-the one with that pops out. she grabbed my buddies bag and then tried to use his CC at a gas station. thats where we got her description.

So we need a new window asap. Im in Chilliwack right now but can travel.
Anyone know where we can get this??

I'd try Coombs Country Auto or Rocky Mountain Imports. They are both on the Island, but they might be able to ship it pretty quick.

Actually if you were on the Island you could come with me to the ICBC yard and strip the window of my written off Super Exceed. I have to go get my WVO kit and other bits off it this week, before it gets shipped off for wrecking. The passenger side is a bit dinged, but the driver side is pristine.

I just may take you up on that window offer, where are you on the island?
My guests are from back east and we missed the island on our trip. may be worth the run.

I'm in Nanaimo. I have to strip the van of my aftermarket gear by Friday. I'm not sure how closely ICBC will be watching me while I do it, so I'll see what I can pull off. I've never taken the windows out before, so I have no idea how difficult it is or what tools are required.

If you are in a pinch and cant make it to any of the recommended shops you should be able to fashion a window out of a piece of plywood. That way it at least keeps the mosquitos out and the rain. At home depot or rona they can cut it to shape for you then a couple of holes drilled or a little chiseling and you should be ready until your claim goes through.

Did I just suggest a wood window? hehe.

you could also get a sheet of plexi glass from Rona or home depot and cut to size and shape with a jigsaw. At least then it will be an actual window.

Dave,

Its not a difficult job at all. Its like any other door window. I replaced my power window motor in a little over an hour. A few screw drivers , a socket set , and possibly a couple of wooden wedges if you dont have a helper to hold the window in place whilie adjusting.

Good luck

I think he was talking about the back side windows.

That one is basically 3 bolts. Easy.

Thanx everyone!!

I got lots of offers of help. Glenn at CC, John, Butch from CVI. thanx all.
It was Mardy from whom i finally got the window, threw it up in his parking lot with his tools.

As to the villian.....

Because we did the leg work, the cops were able to connect the gas station incident with the stolen Credit Card and the van smashing. The've actually called us and said that they now know her, her home, have talked to her land lord and have sent out APB for the cars in and around the wack. We are still waiting to hear what actually happens to her. also, someone found my buddies wallet and mailed it back to alberta. too bad we couldnt have told him we're still here!

So its turned out ok, we got to eat one last all-u-can-eat sushi lunch at Fish on Rice and stock up on a few missing supplies and some crazy bi-otch gets caught stealing!

thanx again

Glad it all worked out for you. I was at the ICBC salvage yard today striping parts off my van and thinking about your window. I could have taken it out so easily, they didn't check what I was pulling apart. I still have to go back tomorrow, so I'm taking requests :-)
