Tough decisions

Post by Lacerta »

Hello again, so although I've been strongly considering the purchase of a Delica L400, I've had my eyes and ears open to other options as well.

I was wondering if anyone around here also owns a Pajero at all, as that would probably be my other choice to a Delica, and I've also been looking at the Strada and even the Nissan Safari. Through some Googling and Binging, I haven't really found much materials that I could use comparatively, so I was wondering if anyone around here has some experience with any of these non-Delica imports to perhaps give a reasonable pro/con between the two. Though, I understand this is a Delica forum, and things might be a bit Biased :-D .

I have actually taken quite a few searches in the forum as well, and found a few answers, but I thought I might try throwing the rest up in the air here to see what people might say.

So far my own reasoning between these vehicles are the Delica is much larger and more room for everything, and they also come with a lot more creature comforts for the price, also size does not bother me, I used to do delivery work and can drive large cube vans comfortably in various environments : ).

However the Delica's do seem to cost quite a bit more and as far as I've seen, have the same power and 4WD options as the Pajero and seem to only come with more creature comforts and space... whereas I could get a 2 door Pajero, have the same power, 4WD options, (maybe) a removable back for the summer as well as save some more Diesel due to the smaller size and less fuel slurping.

So what do you as Delica (and possibly Pajero) owners think?

Also, don't ask me why, but I love the look and driving of small 2door SUVs, I was considering a sidekick/tracker/sunrunner before but they are hard to find in this area, and as I have come to find out from many owners, often have large rust problems.

So that so far is my thoughts on a whole between the Pajero and the Delica. But two last thoughts, is it easy to find block heaters for either of these? Also I am a considering buyer from PEI, so I would be -much- farther from any of the various skilled people in this forum as well as parts, trying to consider what mechanical costs would be like also.

Thanks, hope to hear your input : )

I love the Nissan safari, I tried to buy one before I got my Deli but my car didn't sell fast enough :(

the safari may have a big engine, but with no turbo and the gearing they are about the slowest thing I have ever driven, din't bother me but some might not like it.

I've had both.

Grab the shorty Paj. You'll love it. :)

the L400 and Pajero 92+ are the same aside from the Delica being longer and having more room.

If you 'need' that extra room, the shorty paj's are a lot of fun for the price.

Get the 2.8. It's worth the extra power.

Thanks for the opinions, great to see you are sure of yourself too, Jfar :)

Also, two other questions that just popped up in my mind

Cruse control on both easy to get? I was thinking of doing some traveling in the next couple of years

Completely off topic: Anyone know how well those Kei trucks, such as the suzuki carry, handle heavy loads with or without a trailer..?

How heavy is heavy? And what kind of driving would you do with them? I own a couple, and I would not recommend them for long haul driving. (Although I was commuting over 800km round trip weekly in one last winter). They are designed for intown speeds. And their weight rating is about 750lbs. I would never tow much with one.
