maintenence schedule?

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

maintenence schedule?

I just purchased my Delica Exceed on Friday and I was wondering if someone could point me to a recommended maintenance schedule thread on this board?

Sorry for the delay - I saw this post the day it was put up, but forgot to respond back. I've made up my own maintenance schedule from trolling through the Russek manual and the owner's manual (the NZ translated one). I'll post my schedule when I get home from work later today.

Okay, here goes (do these every xxxxkm):
  • engine oil & filter change: 5000
    rotate tires: 10000
    greasing wheel bearing & seal change: 20000 (especially if doing a lot of off-roading)
    air filter change: 20000
    drivetrain greasing routine: 20000
    brake inspection: 25000
    fuel filter change: 30000
    transmission flush: 40000
    differential oil change: 40000
    coolant flush: 40000
    valve adjustment: 50000
    timing belt change: 80000 (if you don't do this one, don't bother doing any of the rest because you won't have an engine to maintain)
There may be others, any actual mechanics can jump in at this point, but this is what I gleaned from the manuals.

timing belt change: 80000
the official answer on this one is 100,000 or 5 years, whichever is sooner (of course, as you point out, this one is extremely vital, so erring on the side of caution by doing it earlier is not a bad idea)

Another vital piece of information... we don't mean 100,000km after you get the vehicle, or 5 years after you get the vehicle, we mean total. so if you are not 100% positive that the timing belt has been changed within the past 5 years, you had better do it immediately, regardless of mileage. (for that matter, you should do ALL of the listed maintenance immediately on getting the vehicle, and then follow the schedule from there)

Thank you everyone for your reply. It looks like most of those things have been done already by the receipts that I have a copy of.

So what happens after 100,000 K repeat the process or just keep up with oil changes?

Each of those items happens at the frequency indicated. So, at 5000km change the oil; at 10000km change the oil and rotate the tires; at 15000km change the oil; at 20000km change the oil, rotate the tires, grease the wheel bearings, change the air filter, and grease the drivetrain; etc.

I've put those items and frequency into an spreadsheet which shows what should be done at each 5000km interval. Some of the intervals will have more things to do, i.e. it will cost you more to maintain at that particular frequency, but those costs for preventative maintenance over time generally do amount to instances of corrective maintenance when something goes wrong due to lack of preventative maintenance.

I recently retired from the Navy and I can attest to preventative maintenance: it's much better to do a bunch of little repairs/maintenance over time than it is to replace a major component or a whole system when something catastrophic goes wrong because someone has neglected to change something as simple as the air filter every three months.

One last thing, shocks should be in there every 80000km, too.
