Puddle under the van

Sheesh, just when you think everything is groovy.
A large puddle of antifreeze under the van
It isn't freezing out!!!!
Darn.
Looked at the spot and up and you know what.
It's that stupid block heater. Not sure if I hadn't
tightened it enough (they warn you not to over tighten
in case you wreck it). I had it on snug though.
Problem is I stuck in in while I had the exhaust/intake
manifold off. Nice and snug in there.
2 hours later i somehow got a socket on it and tightened
it up a couple more turns... just not sure how much to go.

Filled up the antifreeze , started it and let it run for a bit.
I't's not being driven tonight so ill see if some leaks out
again. It was pretty fast.

Hmm
Still a little dribble. Our first -5 morning too with snow on the ground.
Well to be honest I drove through a bit of a snow storm on my way to
Athabasca and back home thur/friday.
I happen to be at my parents today so this evening I will tear apart
what I need to, and take the heater out. Use some heavy duty
gasket maker gunk and seal the sucker in.
Times like this makes me wish my hands were smaller.
(and wish I had done this to start with)

Yesterday afternoon and evening were a trial.
<sigh>
Trying to get at the unit (my fault) and also
to have it seal wasn't a happy time. Maybe the
oring wasn't big enough to create a large enough
seal. The gasket maker was a mess. Anyway
I think I may have gotten it to work.
Have to keep an eye on it.
If not I will get a different one. Possibly head
to the bearing warehouse since they have
tons of orings etc and also get a couple of them
to increase the size.

On the way home the roads were terrible.
That's when I put it into 4x4 and
had a noise pop up. Not a happy noise.
Not a grinding but more of a whine/growl
I just replaced the gear oil in the front a couple
of weeks ago. I will have to check that again.

It would make the noise when in 4x4 and also
when in 2 wheel drive with the hubs still ingaged
(didn't back up to release) had to check that
out. Anyone come across this before? from 5 km and
up.

Check your grease nipples (there ought to be a total of ten or eleven under the van) and remember: When you run a 4x4 vehicle ~ it's 4x4 all the time, that is to say that even though the drive shafts are not engaged the diffs are always running. Do you have a grease nipple on your forward drive shaft?

There was no noise until I engaged the lever to 4x4 high.
The noise was there after I disengaged the lever but didn't unlock
the hubs (by backing up)
Once I backed up etc. There was no continuation of the noise.
I haven't greased up the unit. Got it in Feb/March..
So regardless if that's the cause it will need a greasin..

If I remember correctly, there are three nipples on either hub. The Miss Lil' Bitchi is a '92. I seem to remember that there are differences between years and also the forward drive shaft doesn't always come with a nipple. There should be a thread on this site regarding this issue.
