Drove my first Deli today!

Post by almac »

well i actually drove a deli today. :-)

its a 1993 Mitsubishi Delica P25W 4WD Turbo Diesel. $10800 asking price.
5spd. 85k kms.
Image

strange driving on the other side. i kept 'wandering' to the center line. :?
also kept wanting to shift with my right hand! lol.

noticed that the brakes were a bit spongy... im thinkin either bubbles, brake cylinders, or master cylinder.
looks like it hasnt had the timing belt,wp service done either. if it hasnt had that done, im guessing that it hasnt had any kind of rad or coolant service either.
Batteries had some japanese writing on them, so i guess i would be looking at 2 new batteries as well.
bull bar on front is rusty. no big deal here. oh. it has a rear ladder! :-)

so if i picked this one up, id be looking at,... what another $2000 on top?

Almac,

For that kinda coin, you could probably get one already done.

More likely $3000 according to my experience.

Too expensive. You can get a fully serviced (incl. new batteries, tires, all belts, all fluids, new radiator) as well as no rust l300 for that amount.

For much less than that actually. You guys are paying far too much for these Delica's.....

J Cr....rs???? Too much money!! You can get a L400 like mine for that kind of coin. Are you set in stone for a L300?? The L400 is a swank machine.

Nice looking van, but I agree too much money! You should be able to get something even nicer and fully serviced for that much money. I'm sure you could get a nice 400 too, but then you might as well put big tires on an MPV and pretend your cool! :-D Okay, for all you guys that have sold out and bought a 400 and are tying to convince all of us that still have 300's how great they are I'm just joking! I'm scared to take a 400 for a drive because I'm afraid I'll want one too! So for now I'm living in denial that they might be as nice as everyone is saying they are.

Westjet = 150$ approx one way. If you come to Edmonton I'll drive you around if you like.
Look around a bit I'd say.

Always tempting to look the ol' Alberta route...but a freakin' nightmare when it comes time to register in BC. Unless they have had previous registration in this province.
I also saw that L300 you're looking at almac (in Armstrong, isn't it?)...nice enough van, but yeah, way overpriced. Just like real estate...everyone's willing to up the $$ when times are good, but never willing to drop the $$ when times are dismal.
Good luck in the search though!

That's a high price for one that's not mechanically in A-1 shape.

I would personally pass and keep looking. It's too bad you couldn't snag the white one from Joe in Nanaimo. That was a killer deal.

Nope.

Just make sure it's not a piece of junk and that it's up to spec mechanically and has E-code/DOT lights and side reflectors.

I bought a Subaru off autotrader years ago sight unseen in Halifax. Bought a one-way ticket and drove it home. Saved about $4k and had a blast.

Did the brakes and went through OOP inspection in BC without a hicup.

Delica's are no different.

I still find it amusing that people think Delica's are some sort of not-of-this-earth vehicle. Sure, they are unique, but they are still just a simple diesel vehicle. :M :-D
