Calgary Test Drive for Potential New Owner

Post by Canadaeh »

Hi everyone, first I must complement you all on your enthusiasm regarding your Delicas.

I too would like to be a delica owner, test drove one last night (94 L400) and loved it....

In the back of my mind I still have a few reservations only because my driving experience has never involved driving a diesel and very limited time in an automatic.

I am looking for a willing Calgary Delica Owner to give me 15 minutes of their time and test drive their van for comparison.

It is a lot to ask for complete newbie/stranger, but I figure it never hurts to ask.

Thanks a bunch,

Mike

Hi Mike,
Were you wanting to compare against another L400, or were you looking to compare with a L300? I could let you take my L300 for a spin. PM me if you are interested.

Thanks for the offer Jon. I will send PM.
For anyone else, I would really like to drive a l400 automatic diesel, however any version of a Delica would be a great starting point. I have a few days (Thursday) before I make the final decision.

Hi Canadaeh, Are you sure you want an L400, they are still fairly new to us as only been available for a few months, so this website doesnt have a lot of members able to help you with answers when you have issues. The L300 is a very reliable vehicle, and the Calgary members have had to learn how to do their troubleshooting as there are not the professional shops and mechanics in Calgary compared to Vancouver.

Hope you can meet with Jungle Jon, nice guy. Try to get in touch with Erebus, and the others, so you can ask their opinions. CinJay did a lot of research last year before buying their L300 for their family, so they might be a good resource for bouncing your questions. If you talk to Green1, he can tell you what features made him want an L400 instead of another L300. Come on Calgary folk, step up to help, I can't arrange your mini-meets from this distance.

Are you buying in Calgary or in Vancouver? If you come to Vancouver to check out delicii, you are welcome to stay in our spare room, it is home from home for the Calgary delii gang. We will even arrange a local meet so you can meet a bunch of owners and get various totally biased opinions. PM me if you have questions, always happy to help others join the cult ... oops I meant group.

Cheers, Christine.

Mike,
I can only offer my experience with our own van (an L300). The van is in Regina currenly, or else you would be welcome to take it for a spin. All I can say is buy it from a reputable dealer. Ours came via the Mardy route and we have had zero, nada, bupkis, issues since we got it. Starts well in winter, runs great, everything works, etc, etc, etc. All we have had to do is routine maintenance. Granted, we have only had it for a year and I have probably just given it the kiss of death!!!

This one looks worth checking out. Great price if it is as described!

Good luck with your hunt.

I'll gladly let you test drive my L300 too. Green1 introduced me to the existence of Delicas, had mine for over 2 years, happy with it. I'm available days & evenings, not so much on weekends. I live in the South (Heritage & Macleod area). Feel free to PM.
