Coolant Leak

Post by kpsxtyone »

Just happened yesterday when we hit close to 0. It started to leak and i saw a pinhole on the metal pipe that connects the waterpump (looks like a water pump) to the head. I checked the oil and thank goodness the level did not increase (another way to know if the head cracked) and the radiator did not accumulate oil.

I was able to quick repair to the pinhole but just as i noticed this morning it is also leaking where that pipe joins the water pump. Does this mean i have to replace the water pump? or just the pipe.

this is for a 94 Pajero with the 2.8 TD. Any suggestions? do you know were i can find the pipe or do i have to replace the water pump. It is where the water hose is connected to the engine block. Might be where the termostat is located.

thanks !

Leaks are a pain.

A quick fix until you can get a new part would be to take piece of inner tube, cut it to fit around the pipe over the pinhole and secure it with a hose clamp.

Good luck

i was able to repair the pinhole with industrial rubber tape and secured it with a hose clamp so its good at the moment.

But there is another leak on where the rubber seals (#4) I would order from mitsubishi if i knew the part number.

Anyone know the part number for the rubber seals and the pipe?

The local dealers here.. when you say Montero diesel they might get lost hehehe.
Thanks !

What about taking off pipe #3, and removing the seal ( O-ring in my mind) and spinning it around on the end of the pipe. That has worked for me in the past with cars with those types of cooling set ups.

The other option is to match it up with an O-ring of same diameter/thickness at an industrial tool shop like Acklands or even Princess Auto. Even the Mitzoo parts guy at the dealer could find something in the back.

Good luck with this

thanks for the help !!! its now A OK :)

had the pipe brazed and painted :) got some new orings from Part source. They were the only ones that had the same diameter orings compared to 3rd party parts place and princess auto.

Now got me some coolant and boom no more leaks !!!
