No good deed ...

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

No good deed ...

Post by jskrepnek »

Hi, writing from Baja. Put van in 4L trying to get a guy out of sand and after helping I can't get it out back to 4L or 2H. I can put it in neutral, but that's it. Won't go over. A mechanic down here traced everything to the transfer case, and it looked fine. I'd appreciate any ideas for put to put to mechanics down here ... or from anyone who has had a similar problem.

Thanks,

Just to be sure, you are putting the transmission in neutral before you try to move the transfer case lever? (park is not good enough, the transfer case selector will not move at all in or out of 4L if the transmission is in any gear other than neutral)

Check the transfer case fluid level and check the smell to see if it smells like burning gear oil.

Disconnect the shift linkage and try to shift it directly at the transfer case.

Also have someone turn the rear driveshaft by hand while shifting the 4WD with the engine off.
