UK Resident

Post by shauninsw »

Hello there everyone,

Am actually from England - South Somerset to be accurate.

Have had a 1995 Delica L400 for exactly 9 days. Absolutely over the moon with it, but it does have quite a few "issues" which i believe happen with all Delicas to a greater or lesser extent.

Have joined the UK owners club, but have browsed the internet to find as many orgs as i can to tap into for knowledge, advice, and just good craic from fellow owners and enthusiasts.

Two biggest probs are that the aircon / heater doesn't work right now - and it is getting chilly here now, although not quite as bad as you might be having there right now.

Also the central locking has a mind of its own. doors unlock but don't lock and the passenger door only locks and unlocks from the inside.

Minor issues, as it is mechanically sound and the engine is fine, and i am still over the moon about picking it up for a song. :-D

Hope to post more here ladies and gents, and to follow many of the threads already here.

Cheers you guys - Shaun

Welcome to the group. We've got a few Britons lurking about this site, so you're in good company.

I've heard about the door locking/unlocking issue before, but I can't remember the particulars. I would check the solenoid that is part of the circuit: it it works one way and not the other, could be that. Look in the driver's door. You know that it's only the driver's side that will lock/unlock the other two doors, right?

Your aircon/heater issue, if neither are working then I would suspect control panel: maybe the slider for the adjustment is fallen off. Does the fan work? If none of it, check the fuse panel. Aircon is active when the button is pushed in, although I imagine you're more worried about heat than cooling, eh?

Anyway, welcome and well met. Throw up a picture some time so we can ogle your ride. Picked a name for it yet?

As J Paul has said, check the solenoid in the drivers door for the locking issues. There is lots of great info on the Pajeros owners club UK site. pocuk.com

Welcome to Delica Canada, Shaun... Zumerzet, eh?

We have many references here, however many of them came from MDOC.UK & Delica Club Australia, amongst others. We are getting up on the L-400s but they are new to us as we have a law in Canada that excludes Delicas (all imported vehicles) until they are 15 years old, so the '94s have just come out here. I am not sure how the locking system on the L-400 works but as Mararmeisto has mentioned, the L-300 master locking is only operated from the driver's door. Make yourself at home and we love to hear about your experiences as they transpire.

Falco.

Cheers you guys and thanks for the warm welcome.

To be honest, i had considered the L300 as i think it is a better looking vehicle. But the ones available in the UK at the price i wanted to pay were a bit on the poor side. "Gurt Rubbish" as they would say here in Somerset. The really good quality ones are now beginning to rise in price and you can expect to pay several thousands for a really top notch van. Getting almost the same as the early VW campers now.

My L400 is currently black and silver, but is destined to become all black. I'll post some pics as soon as i get a bit of time over the hols.

Looking forward to speaking with you guys again soon.

Shaun
