Cylinder Head Valves - Flush & Protruding

Post by ianmair »

having a bit of a fiasco with my engine. Long story but basically need a new cylinder head...

I've bought a new cylinder head sold with "flush" valves, but on arrival the valves stick out slightly from the head by about 1-2mm. Does this make them protruding or is that acceptable?

I read that someone on the Pajero site said if the pistons have a "clover leaf" pattern on them then it's a protruding valve head. Mine DOES have the clover leaf pattern on the head, but the head i removed had flush valves. This has confused me, as although i can contact the seller of the new head to say he's sent me a protruding head when i ordered flush, i'm not even sure now which one i need and my existing head is the wrong one for the pistons!

images are of the new head, the one i removed from the engine, and my engine block showing pattern on top of the pistons...
