L400 1995

Post by Wobby »

Who is going to be the first to own a 1995 L400?
And who is going to be the first to land one in Canada?
Or has either or both of these happened?

In 2002, I imported a 1988 Landcruiser (14 years old on paper).

I contacted Toyota in Japan and was sent the production/manufacture date document for that cruiser/VIN #.

Although it was registered at a dealer in March 1988, it was in fact produced in October 1987.

That allowed me to import it as a 1987 JDM although it was spec'd as an 88'.

All vehicles are the same.

Manufacture/Production month & year are not the same as dealership registered for the 1st time in the vehicle's lifetime.

I already have a 95 L400 although in reality it's a 94.

Jan - Mar registered (Mitsu dealer) L400's were manufactured between Nov-Dec 1994 so they are eligible for importation providing you have the manufacturer's official production date document.

There's quite a few already being driven in Canada.

They look the same and are the same as the one's made a few months prior in fall 1994.

In Australia we don't look at the Japanese registration date only the manufacture date
So is there 1995 manufactured L400's already in Canada?

Being that the L400 wasn't manufactured until the 1995 model year, all L400s in Canada are technically 1995 models (despite being built well before 1995) it's just like around here, by late spring/early summer the 2011 vehicles will be hitting showroom floors... I can bet they were built long before 2011..

You don't seem to be getting my point Green1.
As I said before, Is there any L400 Delica's manufactured in 1995 already in Canada?

I can guarantee that any L400 manufactured in 1995 that is currently in Canada is here illegally.

This is based on a few facts:
1) Vehicles are not allowed to clear customs until they are 15 years old to the month of manufacture.
2) A vehicle built in January 1995 will not be 15 years old until January 2010
3) Customs, as a government organization, is not open on statutory holidays or weekends.
4) There have only been 2 days so far in January of 2010, one of them was a statutory holiday, and the other was a weekend.

I have got a few 1995 ( February manufactured ) L400's sitting in storage waiting to come over to Canada when they have matured to 15 years. Probably quite a few will beat those here though...

Thing is, it doesn't even matter, there is no difference between a 1995 model year vehicle manufactured in June 1994, and one manufactured in February 1995. This is no different from asking who is going to be the first to own a February Delica, or a March Delica.
Now if you asked about the first to own the next model year, it might be interesting (though I don't know if any changes were made for the 1996 model year, my understanding is that nothing changed until the 1998 model year (built in 1997))

Hi Green1,
The post was to be a bit of fun

But it seems some people take things way too seriously

Oh and by the way there are changes along the way from Manufacture 1994 to 1997 and further

Happy driving in your L400

What would be interesting to know then is what changes there were between the 1995 and 1996 model years (what can we look forward to seeing on delicas coming in soon?

Hey Wobby...
Your bit-o-fun is not lost... kinda like the first baby of the year except I'm not into babies (sorry to dad's of the world - just not my thing  ). Anyway, haven't even seen a '95 advertised locally yet, and I am in the market for a 400... I am sure they are coming soon. I figure probably end of the month we will start to see one or two, maybe a flood. There will be some who want the newer year for that reason only. I'm not that particular.

BTW... looked over my first L400 in person yesterday... WAY nicer in person than in pics! Me likey!
Cheers!
Ian
