1990-1993 L300 Stereo systems

Post by VirtualJJ »

Hi,

I was wondering what types of speaker setups come with the various trim levels on the 1990-1993 L300s.

I have seen some pictures with high mounted rear speakers, and some without, and was wondering what the factory setups were; specifically with the high-roof crystal-lite configuration.

Thanks,
JJ

There are 2 sounds packages, the "standard" and "audio-stage" packages, both come with dash speakers and rear floor level speakers. The audio-stage package comes with the high mount rear speakers.

The audio-stage package also includes a rear control unit for the rear passengers to fiddle with, including headphone outputs and aux and mic inputs (can we say karaoke?). Unfortunately this control unit only works with the stock stereo, and the stock stereo doesn't do the north american AM/FM bands properly. it i salso a cassette deck only (no CD)

most people will replace the stock deck, which will disable ther rear control unit. the upper speakers will continue to work though as they are parrallelled with the lower rear speakers.

If a good sound system is a driver for you, you WILL change out the stock system including speakers. I bought a high end Kenwood with all the bells & whistles plus Energy speakers -- tweeters in place of the existing dash ones, new mid-range/woofers in the front doors and coaxials in the rear lower postion on my low roof. Sounds awesome without a big amp which I could still add.

If you get a high roof, then check this link out for mounting new ones in the back.
