Every Winter... Icefishing

Post by Firesong »

Just have to post an adventure or two.
One thing I wish I had a little more of is clearance at the axles.
More important in snow than in other stuff

However you build up speed when breaking paths..
Up until now we have been able to get onto the ice
with pretty nominal amounts of snow blocking access.

Took My Boy out on sunday fishing. Was told that I
needed a 'real' 4x4 with lots of clearance. I simply
said that people need to learn how to drive.

We had some fun on the ice where snow was up to
a foot at times unbroken (where my spot was) and
at other times there was a path (initially). Hard part
was there was some crust on the snow in places.

We did come up to a 3.5ft drift 12 feet wide.
I looked at Reece and said well, Im not one of those
stupid people, should we dig it out of our way?
And so we did. I hope the people who try to follow
realize that it's only wide enough for a delica :)

Slow fishing day but we did catch two very nice
northern pike. Later this week when it warms up a bit
Im going to get the deep fryer up and it's fish fry time!

p.s. we didn't get stuck

Hi firesong,

I'm also from Saskatoon.
Was the fishing at Blackstrap? I'm curious which lake has perch like that.

Nice way to spend a day with yer son!

Yes, we were fishing at blackstrap.
That perch isn't very big. But they are lots of them.
Sorta mediumish. (im sure that's a word)

Lot's of perch this year, they are taking minnows,
bacon ( :) ) and grubs.
Small hooks

Do you fish lots?
