Hey all,
My delica bit the dust in october. Crank pulley failed in Thunder Bay on my way back out west. I love it and i'm determined to get it back on the road, first problem is that its incredibly difficult to find someone to work on it in the Jasper, AB area. second the wobble in the crank pulley has thrown a few other pulleys out including the injection pump. It was running when I layed it to rest in Jasper although it was incredibly rough and would only do 60km/h with heavy vibrations. Is it possible to rebuild these motors? rather then replacing them. If I do need a replacement would I be able to swap with the 2.8lt intercooled turbo motor?

Re: L300 engine swap
No go on the 2.8 swap. The trans/motor are too big to fit in there.
Some of the AB guys should chime in where is a good place to take it.
In reality, any good mechanic should be able to fix it. It's not an alien.
At the very least I would order a new crank pulley, timing belts, tensioner and also check the key on the crank shaft itself.
It's possible the belt just skipped a/few teeth due to the crank pulley vibrating = crank pulley keyway and crankshaft key are both worn.
Good luck & let us know how you make out.
The engines are very primitive by today's standards and any competent mechanic should have you diagnosed and up and running without much difficulty.

Crank shaft keyway and pulley key way are both heavily warn, i will likely need a new crank shaft aswell.

I don't know about shops in the Jasper area, you may need to tow it somewhere (which is sad really, because they're such a simple vehicle that any mechanic who isn't instantly afraid of "different" should have no trouble at all with them!)

Until you pull the head, you won't know for certain.
You may be lucky that the belt skipped, threw the timing off and caused the lack of power.
Your crank may be in good shape but will have to be looked at to know for sure.

If the crank is junk anyhow....line up the sprockets and weld them to the crank!!! I looked at a Turbo 323 once that the guy re-welded the crank pullies every 100,000km and the motor had gone 400,000km (3 re-welds!)
Mazda Miata are famous for crank problems here is one "fix"

You might look around on Mazda sites since the deal with this lots.
Also, what about pulling the crank and having it fixed? A good machine shop should be able to fix the key way on the crank (you will have to pull the crank though).
Good luck

Re: L300 engine swap
I'm a little bit ahead of you guys, first off this is the second crank pulley to fail on my delica. When the delica broke down in Thunderbay we welded the crank pulley to the crank shaft, so at this point the crank will deffinately have to be replaced, i'm thinking it might be cheaper to do an engine swap. Anyone got a line on a used engine thats in good shape?

This is a bit of a long shot but If you know anyone coming up from Mexico in an RV there are lots of these motors in the
junkyards in Mexico. They have been running a re-badged delica from hyundai called a H100. These are sold through
Dodge and are all over. They have been around since 2001 and at the usual rate of attrition on Mexican roads there are
lots of them in the boneyard now. It is almost March and los Aves de Nieve should be starting to come home soon. Maybe
you have a connection down there who could help out? Buen Suerte.

Contact either Mardy at Amazing Auto or Glen at Coombs Auto for a used engine.
