Diesel Leak

I've, (well, my van) has developed a diesel leak. Through all the reading I could manage I'm hoping it can be fixed with either engine oil stop leak or/and veggie oil. I'm figured from other posts that that'll refresh the seals. Just want some feedback and confirmation that the stuff I've found will be right.

Do you have an oil leak or a fuel leak? Where exactly is your leak? How bad is it?

Its definately a diesel leak, and it appears to be coming from the back of the IP.

Is it the IP itself or (if you can tell) the fuel line? My 4Runner developed a crack in the fuel line and I had to run a replacement line. Was fairly cheap from Ukranian Tire.

Been there! It was a leaking gasket on the back of the injection pump. Mardy just swapped the whole pump for me.

Sorry, I'm way behind in my forum. I had leak too, I put engine oil leak stop in the fuel. Started with full can in full fuel tank, second time I put full can in 2/3 tank, 3rd time I put 2 cans in full tank. It greatly reduced bad leak to barely dripping. I think I used about 4 cans total.

Local (Calgary) shop noticed the fuel lines were slightly loose into the IP, and tightened them up.

I then took a drive to CVI to have the pump rebuilt. They noticed the tight fuel lines and loosened them -- they are supposed to be slightly loose. How loose? Good question, but CVI knew.

go to costco or a restaurant supply and buy a 16l jug of veggie oil (if you cant get some filtered WVO from a friend)
put it in when youve got about 20 liters or so in the tank and run it. that will very likely solve your problem and save you from a several hundred dollar IP repair. i know of 2 delicas that ran veggie oil to solve a leak problem, one solved the problem 2 years ago and still no leaks!

The oil leak stop or veggie oil makes the "rubber" seals swell, which might be enough to stop your leak.

Any type of veggie oil that works best? Is this ok to try in the winter? Does anyone know of a good diesel mechanic in Edmonton or Calgary that would do a good job rebuilding the IP? Is this the type of thing you take to CVI in BC and make a mini vacation out of it?

Stevos is willing to do them, but I decided to make a mini-vacation and go to CVI.

Pretty much any veggie oil should work, but I would check TardisDeli's posts for their recommendation. I wouldn't try it in winter unless you plan to do a long drive that will empty the tank. Just take a small container of veggie oil, put it outside overnight, see how thick it is in the morning, and ask yourself if the IP could move that?

There is a reason the vans that have a veggie conversion use dual tanks, and start/stop on diesel, and have pre-warmers on the veggie fuel lines.
