Delicas (other JDM's too!), Camping & Mountain Biking

Post by jwfchase »

Just sending an "Anyone Interested?"

I'm thinking a weekend in May or June when our right-hand drivin' 2-wheeled dirt riding brothers and sisters from the Lower Mainland and elsewhere could join those of us blessed to live in BC's interior to hit the trails.

Harper Mountain is about 20mins outside Kamloops, and has been grassroots developed into a great system of trails that start at the top of the ski hill (no lift access, just shuttling, and for those of us up to the task- pedalling) with a network of great trails leading back down to nearby Paul Lake. The trails vary from XC style to DH and freeride, with an ever-increasing number of wood stunts being built. To generalize interior riding for those of you from the coast- definitely not as technical as "the Shore", but we try to make up for that by hitting everything faster

All the trails terminate at a parking lot beside the Lake, right beside a reservable group campsite. I thought if there was enough interest, it'd be pretty cool to fill the campsite with a DeliCamp :M , and bike ourselves silly. Maybe a few Non-Biker Deli enthusiasts would even come up to be shuttle pilots (Heyyyy- Shuttling... Spacegears... Starwagons, yah!). Of course, the campsite would be way too civilized (a grassy field with a paved road leading almost right to it) for the true Delica camping crowd out there,... but it is in the perfect spot for biking.

Count me in; well come to think of it, I can't attend - Don't have a Delica

Paul Lake is a great destination spot; close to the loops for supplies, great spot for kids, must be around 100 camp sites up the hill, perfect stepping stone for Wells Gray or Hwy 24, and nice bow's available despite all the fishing pressure. Favourite lake, for myself, to fish a chironomid deep and snag some large Rainbows. Good lake to fish with kids in May and june, trolling will bring in many 12 inch fish. Bring the family, the bikes and the boat.

One of our stops on our farewell BC tour.

Oh man, I would have been in with a buddy of mine if this had been last year... however that is about one month before my buns that are in the oven are scheduled to be done, so can't go that far out of town :(

Sounds like a great spot though, and perhaps next year!

Congratulations!
Never having actually met you... ummmm... is it your oven or your significant other's? ...

Of course, we are only 4 hrs away here... that's plenty of time to get home if contractions start...

Heheh, no problems, and thanks! It's my significant other, so depending on how things are going I might be able to swing out by myself or with a buddy, but that's probably only about 20% chance :( It'd be nice to hit up somewhere other than Whistler and North Shore though...

Depends on how I go getting a leave pass!

Been there (the "leave pass") twice so far... I'll be realistic: we won't be expecting you to be up here! :-D

Your confidence is astounding! :-D

Still, if you're ever in Vancouver and up for a few runs on the north shore before July, let me know, as I know no locals I can go riding with, just another Aussie buddy.

most MTBers are friendly and hospitable. they just won't show you the goods right away. got to earn it.

Obsession Bikes has group rides on Cyps beginning soon I beleive.

NSMB.com ppl are always posting for rides.

i'll have my DH pig ready in a month or so. we can hook up for a ride sometimes.

Ha! I only get out and about every now and then, and usually make friends on the trail, but it's nice to have folks to share the shuttle with :)

Gimme a holler if ever you want a shuttle partner!

Soooo...

So far, basically no interest expressed.

I won't bother checking into availability of the group campsite at least until enough (any?) people say they'd be interested in coming up. Unfortunately, the later that is, the less likey the site will be available on a weekend :-(
