I assume the L400s will be available to the import market in a couple of years, what do you suppose their landed costs will be here?

Re: your thoughts on cost of L400
I bet their cost will be about the same... it seems that it almost doesn't matter what vehicle you bring in, the cost is between $10,000-$20,000 (mainly because the majority of the cost of a JDM vehicle is not the purchase price, but all the other things involved in getting it here)
that said... at the rate our government is going, we won't get the L400 until 2019... (this would be a good opportunity to get involved in the fight to stop this ridiculous change at http://www.ivoac.ca )

Re costs - Yup, seems like a reasonable assumption. I assume they will have little value at home then as ours' do now.Green1 wrote:I bet their cost will be about the same... it seems that it almost doesn't matter what vehicle you bring in, the cost is between $10,000-$20,000 (mainly because the majority of the cost of a JDM vehicle is not the purchase price, but all the other things involved in getting it here)

Re IVOC - posted my comments to Transport Canada a few weeks ago. I know much has been written on this already, but the lack of logic in the paper they produced was embarrassing. I'm not big on consipiracy theories but you gotta be at least a little suspicious about what is really motivating their initiative.

best case: they're simply afraid of the unknown... it's human nature to fear what we don't understand...you gotta be at least a little suspicious about what is really motivating their initiative.
worst case: they're bowing to pressure from north-american dealers/manufacturers... money talks, and we don't pay the politicians what the big interest groups do...
I'd like to think it's the former... but I won't put it past being the latter...

Re: your thoughts on cost of L400
If the former than hopefully logic, statistics and common sense prevails (stress hopefully). If the latter we can work to get those influential players to show themselves and with luck expose them for their protectionist stategies.
So far I don't see a lot of movement in any direction which might be a good thing.

From what I have been told, one of the major voices pushing for the 25 year ban is Jimmy Pattison. That little SOB carries a lot of weight, so he can dictate "logic" however he sees fit.
Isn't he rich enough? It just galls him and his kind that they are being cut out of their "middleman" status in vehicle purchasing. IMO, that's the reason behind this whole mess....
