Replace all Headlights/Taillights for Safety???

I'm trying to get our L300 safety inspected for Saskatchewan, and they are telling me that neither the headlights or taillights are DOT / CSA approved. This isn't an aiming issue, but rather a "quality of materials" issue.

I am now told that I must replace all the headlights and tail lights.

This is a bit of a surprise as it just passed BC inspection only a week ago.

Any thoughts?

There are no issues (in BC) with stock taillights. Some of the clear lens lamps do not have the correct markings but would not pass BC inspection either. Headlamps have to be clearly marked with correct `E` code and have the correct beam pattern that `dips` towards the ditch. As an inspection facility in BC we photograph all DOT compliant parts and keep them on file to prevent anyone changing out parts after we have completed the inspection. Thanks, Glen

I do have the proper E-code stamp.
I do not have a DOT or CSA, which is what they seem to need.

DOT is what they 'want' but e-code is acceptable in all provinces as many European Canadian sold vehicles only have e-code lights.

Tell them to go look at a brand new BMW at the local dealership.

Might I suggest another inspection shop, if that is an option. Show them the BC inspection report.

If you haven't had the inspection agency acknowledge that e-code is acceptable for all lights and windows; search online this forum for this topic. There was a thread in the past (year & 1/2 or so ago?) that quoted the exact federal laws that cover it. Then you could take that to the inspection shop. No one with stock lights has had a problem.

The only changes you HAVE to do to a stock-from-Japan Delica are:
* side marker lights (front only in most provinces) can be done with simple wiring from front running light to side turn signal repeater. Instruction on this forum. Most provinces accept the wrap-around taillights as acceptable
* daytime running lights
* change headlights for one designed for LHD countries

Most places demand a high-mounted centre brake light. Although as technically trucks, the law doesn't require then until about 1997 or so, all the post-August-1991-built Delicas have them anyway, and it is usually easier to install one than prove to the inspection facility that the law doesn't require it.
