I have searched for a solution to my 1992 Delica's recent vibration issue. No conclusive info for the vibration. Symptoms include a pronounced medium to heavy vibration while in gear at a stop light or backing up with no to very little throttle input, but not always. The engine itself purrs in neutral and the shuddering completely disappears while moving at 1000 rpm and over. First step I took was to replace the lower tranny mounts as they were pretty hammered but now the vibration/shudder has increased and become more regular. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Hey,
Figure change out the other mounts as well,
if the tranny ones were that hooped/buggered/screwed.
What is your idle rpm?
You can adjust the hand throttle knob
a bit to keep the vibration at bay until
you have time/cash to change those other mounts
and don't want to rattle loose any fillings or relationships.
It might make an auto tranny wanna creep a bit
if you set it too high though. You wanna
keep it well below 1000 at idle.
Usually changing it by 100-200 rpm will do it.
Again only a temporary solution until you fix it.
Right On!

Re: wisdom needed
Idle is set right at 750 indicated in neutral, 675 when in gear. Also I should mention that new air and fuel filters about 200 kms ago. Timing belts and all tensioners done 10,000 km ago by Amazing Auto. Shudder usually goes ago in neutral, but sometimes is slightly noticeable. Thanks again.

Re: wisdom needed
Did you replace both inner and outer tranny mounts ?
If so check the following :
engine mounts (most likely the culprit)
subframe bolts
If the engine mounts are shot, you will feel a rough vibration in gear with the brake on (any rpm range below 900ish) and it will smooth out over 1000rpm as the engine vibration freq smoothes out.
If your tranny mounts were shot, the length of the driveline was absorbing the shake. Once you replace the tranny mounts, the vibration will go right up to the front seats.

Re: wisdom needed
Update.......Took Chuggy to see Edwin at CVI and had a Delica Tune done. 3 of the 4 injectors was either sticky or out of spec. Vibration went down slightly, but significant increase in power/acceleration. Edwin is great, highly recommend CVI. Yesterday I finally had time to blank my EGR with Jensen's plates. Vibration is now gone!!!! Yeehaawwwwwwww! The egr was completely gross with carbon and some kind of blowby in it. No wonder Chuggy didn't like what he was breathing. If you haven't blanked yours yet, I recommend doing it and Jensen's plates are first rate. Later.
