How much do new filters cost for that setup? Does it work out to be less expensive?
Looks like the attachment fitting you put on reduces the clearance of the original oil filter - which is perfect as it is such a dangerous spot to get hit by a rock! A job well done I say!
Thanks! Yeah, I'm very happy with it.
I'm also pleased that nothing I've done to Yoda has added any holes or is in any way irreversible. It can all be returned to stock very easily and I can re-install any of this stuff on a different vehicle if ever I want or need to. Having said that, I intend to keep this van for a long time, which is really why I've put in the bypass filter system along with synthetic oil & removed the EGR valve and why I installed waterless coolant etc... all with an eye to increased engine life. Also, I feel it's worth it for anyone to go out of their way to buy the best condition, lowest mileage JDM they can get their hands on to start with and then do everything they can to extend its life... we never know how far things will go with the slime-balls from CADA and elsewhere. We shouldn't take anything for granted, IMO.
Anyway, as for cost, I signed on as a "preferred customer" with Amsoil to get a bit of a discount. The by-pass filter cost $36.85 and is said to be good for up to a max of 60,000 miles, as is the oil itself (although evidently some people go much further. In fact, some people claim oil never actually breaks down and if you clean it well enough it could go on indefinitely. I don't know about that one way or the other but it's an interesting concept).
The recommended Amsoil high flow filter I'm using with the system is also pretty high quality and will need to be changed at the half way mark, at most. Those are about $21. So I'm guessing 50 - 60,000 for the fine filter & oil and 25 -30,000 for the hi-flow filter. Not bad in my books, especially considering the overall increased longevity I should get out of the motor.
Next up: an "X-kote" exterior treatment

and then Amsoil synthetic tranny fluid. That'll be all before my little road trip in Sept.
I'm here to learn.
