Hello fellow Delica lovers! Question....

Post by LCTofino »

Hi all,
Bought my 93 Chamonix from Shogo at Japanoid in March- super happy with it.
Please excuse my ignorance, but I'm hoping someone can help illuminate me on this issue. I've since moved to Tofino and am doing only short trips around town and it's started to have trouble turning over in the morning. Takes 2 or 3 attempts before he gets going. It starts fine after that during the day, but always gives me trouble the following morning. A friend of mine mentioned that I may not be driving it enough to charge the batteries - mostly short trips to the surf (5-10 min. drives) and so am wearing them down. Does this seem plausible to you? It seems odd to me as the Chamonix has two batteries and they were replaced right before I bought it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
LC

If your morning starts are really weak - that is - the engine bearly turns over then perhaps your friend is right. However if it turns over fine but takes a few times to actually start, then I would suggest testing your glow plugs and bus bar.

You mention it starts ok throughout the day and you also mentioned you do many short trips during the day. I think perhaps your engine is warming up nicely from all those short trips, and your starts are easy because the engine cylinders are nice and warm/hot so your glowplugs don't need to do much.

But when she sits overnight and the engine cools completely, your first morning start up is tough because your glow plugs may not be getting hot enough to warm the cylilnders....

There's steps here on the forum on how to test the plugs.

Thank you - yes, you make a good point, I guess it's turning over fine, just not starting straight away. I'll look into the plugs.
Many thanks,

Check out the interval between first click and second click if your control unit is fine.
Before starting engine, you may need aboved action 2-3 times.
We can discuss there.

after check candles glow, check the fuel equipment - high pressure fuel pump.

If the morning is bad start, then drain pump air, likely to be replaced gland.

good luck.

Of course if you have a diesel car))
