In need of good advice

Post by jay33 »

Hey everyone,

My name is Jay and I'm a wannabe Delica owner. I'm currently looking at purchasing a '94 Delica Space Gear with Crystal Lite roof and have a couple of questions... I figure I'm going to need a block heater to get this thing started in an ontario winter, is that going to be expensive and a hard part to find? Also the drivers power window slips when trying to raise it. I'm guessing that the gear has a couple of teeth missing. Any ideas on the difficulty of finding parts for that? Also the front sunroof is broken and needs to be sealed shut. Obviously there are some issues with the prospective vehicle and I'm trying to decide how much work and money it's going to take to get it up to snuff. I'd appreciate any insight that you all have to offer. Thanks!

Block heater nice to have in cold climate saves lots of start up wear on the motor. Cheep easy to find. You have to drain the antifreeze and then replace a core plug. You can also go with a oil pan pad warmer that heats the oil easy to install costs a little more.

Window assemble get in BC check under the parts suppliers they will have it.

Sunroof no idea..I have none.

MORE IMPORTANT!!!! (Concerned that if little cosmetic problems then may need major maintenance)

Engine maintenance? When were the timing belt and balance shaft belt done? was the tensioners for both belts done? Water pump should have been done. Oil seals on front of motor? and V-belts? Parts $450-600 Labour (no idea I did it myself)

When was the cooling system serviced. Needs full flush new or professionally cleaned radiator. new houses.

Flush transmission and transfercase and diffs? Normal car stuff brakes, u-joints, exhaust, etc....

Make sure the seller has bills to prove these things were done or factor in some big money to make it last.

I Love my Delica...

Maybe even more important is the ability (or inability) to insure a RHD vechicle in ON.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking into insurance as I type. I'll be sure to find out as much info as possible. I'm not in a hurry to purchase, so I can wait for the right Delica for me.
