Meeting in Calgary???

Post by piyeguyo »

I was checking the map for last weekend's meeting and according to google it was a 10 hour drive from my house, so I thought we should have our own little gathering a little closer to home.

I'm not sure how many Delis are here in CowTown, but I think it'd be interesting to meet.

What do you guys think?

Sounds good to me... There seem to be about a dozen around town now (maybe more) but only half or less are on here...

So, I'm going to propose a date and you guys let me know what you think. It'll also give other people some time to find out about the meeting.

How's Sat August 11 or Sunday August 12?

Not sure where though... Any suggestions?

Sadly, although I should have my Delica in a couple of days, I'm scheduled to be out of town that day (Thomas Porter's stomping grounds). But since I'm flying VFR if the weather is bad I won't be going.

If I'm weathered out, you bet I'll be there!

What do y'all think about taking the Powderface Trail from Sibbald Flats near hwy 1 through the backcountry to the end of hwy 66 in the Kananaskis and home through Bragg creek? Nice drive, should take a 4-5 hours, lots of picnic and photo opportunities. We could even venture into Maclean creek 4x4 area if we were feeling adventurous.

Love that idea. Has me almost wishing for really bad weather in Prince Albert so I'll be around :o 'cause if it good weather I won't be here.

Guess someone has to make the decisions on which date and location for rendezvous, especially for adrock if he comes in from the "coast".

Well, you are nearer the coast. You've got lots of ways to get to Calgary, N on 93 through Lake Louise, or if you go east on 3, then you have the choice of N on Forestry Trunk Road (slowest and most scenic), 22, or 2 (fastest).

Forestry Trunk turns into 40 which would take you (almost) direct to 68 and Sibbald Flats where everyone may or may not be meeting.

If it happens and you want more detailed directions, let me know. I love those back roads. I've driven almost the entire Forestry Trunk Road, all the way from Grande Prairie to Highwood. Just have to do that last 75 km or so at the south end; although I've flown over that stretch at 500 feet.

By "this" weekend do you mean tomorrow? 'Cause whoever isn't really organizing this meet is talking about 11th or 12th.
