Wiring woes...

Post by Blueberry »

Well, I'm not a frequent poster but I am a frequent visitor. Right now I'm busted back to Lurker status since the loss of our Deli "Blueberry" - a P25 named for the colour and the fact that I wasn't very imaginative.

A couple of days before Christmas an apparent wiring short behind the right headlight caused a fire that from the outside looked minor but got inside the dash and the vents. If the fire didn't get it, the smoke and water damage finished it. Engine and all mechanical stuff is good - it was running better than ever after new belts, tensioner and hoses. I suspect that it may have been some sketchy DRL wiring, but who knows? The wiring is known to be undersized... Interestingly, the van had been parked in front of the house for 6 hours and we were sound asleep when a passerby called in the fire with flames 20' high. Missed the whole show.

All settled up with ICBC - no drama and a fair value.

Now my question: has this been an issue? No posts here that I can find about fires (not including block heaters). If we get a new Deli I would certainly be concerned.

We had some great trips and the Deli was a great choice - economical, unusual and practical. A somewhat camperized interior for us and a roof box for the toys (mostly bike related).

Anyways, the advice here has been great and enthusiastic. Deli owners are happy to share ideas. I hope to be able to continue being part of the club.

Cheers!
Graeme
