Re: Low power / broken rocker shaft
Yes, yes it did. The mechanics here were good about it -- didn't charge me the total number of hours they put into it, just trying to figure out the problem in the first place -- but the rocker shaft job was $1000 and the rocker arms $600.

Re: Low power / broken rocker shaft
Just an update on this, in case anyone else ends up in the same boat:
Problem was that broken rocker shaft caused a crack in one of the rocker arms, so after a few kms of use, a rocker arm broke. New rocker arms installed, and now runs like a top!

Low power / broken rocker shaft
Hello again all, This is further to an earlier topic - stalls when putting in gear: http://www.delica.ca/forum/stall-when-putting-in-gear-12400.html My mechanic first changed the fuel filter. When that didn't help, he looked a little deeper and found the rocker shaft was broken in two places! That w...

Re: Stall when putting in gear
Thanks to you both. I will have mechanic check filter and injectors.
As to fuel, I don't think that's it. Problem did not emerge shortly after a fill up... seemed to be kind of a growing issue over the past several months.

Stall when putting in gear
Hello all - and happy new year. Long time since I have had to look for help! Guess that is a good thing. Now, short description of the problem: van starts normally, idles steady but engine vibrates / shakes a lot, then stalls when I put it into gear (drive or reverse). If I use the throttle lock to ...

Moving to NB - Mechanic recommendations?
We are moving from Chelsea QC to Fredericton, and leaving behind a great mechanic.
Any recommendations near Fredericton? During a visit there last summer, I heard there was another Delica running around...

Re: Interior noise, L300 vs. L400
Thanks to all for your comments. Wind noise is another issue, and certainly adds to the overall noise on a windy day, but driving a box with big rectangle mirrors on the sides... well, this is to be expected. I certainly agree that engine noise is less than you'd expect considering where it is, but ...

Interior noise, L300 vs. L400
We spent a lot of time on the highway over Christmas -- the first time we've driven day-after-day at highway speeds since we got it in 2007. I found the interior noise just to be just too much for comfort anywhere over 90 km/h, and with the 1994 L400s coming available this year, I can't help but won...

Re: G'Day
Green1, Laura, Laura's problems last winter sound identical to mine last winter. Then it seemed to be fine through the early summer, then it went into a shipping container and so on for about 12 weeks and now I have this situation. Mechanic seemed convinced the batteries were not the main source of ...

Re: G'Day
Thanks for the info re. the alternator. I'll see what I can do. I'm out here near Ottawa. Not so easy to come across the right bits. I'm not so sure about the theory re. the drain on the electrical system either causing wear on the alternator, but the bottom line for now is that the battery charges ...

Re: G'Day
Funny you should mention that "heavy duty alternator" - my Delica arrived with the rest of our shipment from Japan yesterday and it was dead as the proverbial doornail. Lots of checks with two mechanics revealed: a) There is a drain on the electrical system that needs to be diagnosed, whic...

Re: Registration in Quebec?
Thank you and merci bien à tout le monde. It sounds like it should be pretty straightforward. Our van is now on the boat. I am still in Japan - hopefully we'll arrive about the same time, negotiate customs without much fuss, and be on the road before I go broke from renting a car big enough for all ...

Probably a dumb question - re. diesel.
Hello all, I've been driving my van for several months now, and through the winter, it has been a little hard starting. Looking for some general pointers here - this is my first diesel. And mind you this is a mild Tokyo winter we're talking about. 1) On other diesels, you turn the key a notch, wait ...
