Wet Floors anybody?

My leak is definitely coming from the window seal. During the heavy rain lately, I can see drips coming off the passenger side grab handle!

I'm going to take my deli to a shop to have them fix it.

i put everything back together and by then off course the rain storm of the century is happening outside, and guess what THE F@#%ing THING STILL LEAKS LIKE A BASTARD!!!! (uh, cool looking bumper though!) i give up, the winshield rubber seal doesn't appear to be leaking as it is bone dry on the inside of it all around it, so were the heck is that water coming from? i can see it drip down from behind the fuse box, behind the peddals, i looked with a flash light as far up behind the dash board as i could, i can't figure it out any similar experience out there? should i go to a windshield shop and get the whole thing taken appart and re-sealed? HEEEEEEEEEEEEEElP!

Kindly look also the snap lock of the mitsubishi logo plate parallel from the head lights. Just look underneath of your dashboard where those snap lock located and put some evosteak and look also the windshield washer snap lock if the water also coming there.

On the upside, still no wet floors. Downside however is that on the way from van to smithers it rained like mad... and I developed the leaky floor problem just soon enough to have an icy floor in smithers.

I was told by a Delica mechanic that my floor problem could be leaky door seals and to put some petroleum jelly on the seals to expand them a bit. The door seal leak seems probable because it's always bone dry behind my pedals but soggy right by the door area, particularly where the little hole is in the middle of the plastic carpet catch on the wheel well. He says the petroleum jellyhas helped on other Delicas. My floors are frozen right now but I'll stay posted.

I have a wet spot on the passenger side floor right by the door. Its ONLY wet right by the door too, I removed the windsheidl wiper fluid bottle and felt the carpet up into the corner and its not wet up there at all. Its very localized, I wonder if its my door seal.

On top of that I have found a leak in the back of the van! Back left where the tools and jack are kept. I can't figure out where its coming from though. I popped off the panels a bit and had a look but couldn't trace where it could be coming from. Hope its not the crystal light panels.

Anyone wet back there? I checked the UK forum and could not find anything so maybe its just me....Help!

Is the damp on the carpet area or inside the tool/jack compartment??

If it is inside the compartment, it could well be that the rear light is not seated properly and the seal is letting in water. (unscrew and remove the light and check the seals...)

If the damp is in the carpet - next time it rains much, get in the back before you move off and look along the bottom of the window. My rear side windows always let some water in when it rains and I end up with a small pool of water all along the bottom rubber seal. As soon as you drive off, this water spills down onto the carpet.... :(

This only happens to me if the vehicle is stationary, not when it is moving! All I do at the moment is pop each window out and close it again before I set off if there is any water there. This lets it drain away down the side of the motor rather than onto the carpet!

thanks for the tips. The water is in the tool/jack compartment and I did check the rear light but unfortunately the water is coming from somewhere further up.

When I opened up the rear light, I could see trickles of water coming down inside but on the metal panel adjacent. I also pulled back some of the interior panels above the jack and I could see some water there. Its coming down both sides of metal wall...

my deli is leaking like a sieve, on both sides in the front and in the back where kuan's is. also, when i pull out the rear seat belts the lower half is soaked. can't figure wtf is up with that.
i'm trying not to stress about it too much. going to try smothering all the suspect seals with vaseline.
i was thinking of sealing up the front seam where the quarterpanel meets the front panel, just below the wipers. would it be a bad idea to fill it with bondo and paint over it?

Ok,

Well this morning the front passenger side wan't wet! Yay! I had put vaseline on the door seals 2 days earlier so it seems to be working.

On the rear. Its still leaking and there was a small puddle forming. Its not a huge leak as its been raining all night. I pryed back the plastic panelling at the back as high as I could go and found this:



WHere the red arrow is shows where the water is coming through a seam in the metal. Its quite high up on the van. It doesn't actually tell me much as It is probably trickling down the other side of that panel and just some coming through the seam.

So, now I know its above this point. Tailgate somewhere? What else is up there? Could it be from a window seal and flowing across.. Or the dreaded crystal lite panels...

Its supposed to clear up in later in the week so I will have to tackle it then. I think I might try some water with food colouring in it to try and find the source.

Have you tried checking the condition of the sealant under the two plastic caps which are on the top rear corners of the van's o so boxy body.

Which by the way are an excellent place to have wires come from if you wish to install any type of light from a roof rack.

The first thing I would do is to check the rubber seal on the door.

Your photos have reminded me that I had a similar leak on mine a few years ago - there was a damp patch at the bottom of the 'fuzzy' plastic panel (the one you have lifted forward)...just where it meets the dark grey hard plastic panel below. It also made the carpet wet in the very corner where you have described.... (sorry - I'd forgotten all about 'that' leak!! )

I took off the rubber seal around the tailgate and re-fitted it after making sure there was no debris or dirt on the inside of the seal (where it clips onto the panel seam)

I can't say for certain that this was the cure, but I certainly haven't noticed any excessive moisture there since! (mind you - I'm too busy battling the water coming in around my side windows to notice! )

Asorensen's idea is also worth looking into...those upper rear corner panels probably hide some seams/joins (like the front quarter panels...) although I've never been brave enough to pull mine off - it always feels like they are gonna snap/break!

What seam sealant are people using for the 1/4 panel fix? and where can I get it?

use sikaflex or any other good sealant thats water resistant and is flexible, go to home depot, rona, canadian tire heck i think walmart has that stuff, there are different grades, just ask the guy and tell him what its for, i went for a heavy duty marine grade, pretty much bounds to any surface...

i have done a lot of sealing on boats everybody recomends sikaflex
however i have found any polyurathane sealant from home depot, ect,as
good,i found Dap polyurathne very good and cheap.

I have a small splash of water in the back left also - but a quick search could not find the leak point, and I have the entire inside down to the metal. Mine is a small amount in heavy rain, like a couple of drips - but darned if I can't see where it's coming from, everything else is dry.
