Do I need to pull my engine to do my frost plugs this is more than the other shop that said it was a three hour job who do I trust.2400 to do the water pump and timing belt and frost plugs seem a bit much

No way it should be $2400, at the same time 3 hours seems quick. I'd think maybe 5 hours of labour!? You definitely don't need to remove the engine!!!

Hi, the timing belt and the water pump with all the other belts should be around 750-800 $. I did mine few months ago.
Talk to Mardy or CVI, they will help you.

It will depend on your situation.
There are total 11 frost plugs ( 3 different sizes ; 2 MF665544, 4 MD000427 and 5 MF665539 ) at block.
And you may take transmission out to make the job perfect unless engine does not come out.
Continuous pressure test will be needed during this job.

Installing the block heater was not the most fun i've ever had, but that being said it wasn't THAT bad. I've read about people pulling the starter and a couple other components... maybe this must be done on the Delica's but i was able to squeeze in there with out removing much.

I got the 38mm (?1 3/4 Inch?) generic block heater plug from Lordco i have the part number if anyone needs. $26

i pulled the intercooler (4 plugs and a couple hoses), then pulled the the dipstick tube (one 12mm bolt)

the factory frost plug basically rite behind the oil dip stick fairly low on the block

I just used a long thin pry par and SMASHED the bottom of the plug in until it went crooked and the pulled er out with some pliers... this is little bit easier said then done but with some carefully placed blows and enough grunting and swearing she'll go!!

i used one of those coolant flush chemicals.... there are pros and cons to these but if you use one MAKE SURE YOU FLUSH IT OUT!!!!!! otherwise it'll eat away at your seals.

The block heater made a HUGE difference on start-up this morning!!! yesterday she was coughing and spluttering and took three or four tries to start... this morning it fired up after the second glow plug click on the first try!!

will get this done soon have done the short term fix for now with ceramic seal and still holding with 8 trips over the hurley and back.I have another 3 weeks of fishing if it holds out.
I have welded the rear diff twice and changed the brake pads but so far I,m happy with the $2000 Madge the paj

I would say that the frost plugs are a bit of a challenge with an auto transmission from what I have seen on the 4d56 with engine-in. But with standard shift there is enough room to squeeze medium sized hands in. Removing the starter will free up space as well.(speaking from a 4d56 perspective only)

However for the timing belt on a Pajero, there should be no problem whatsoever with doing this work engine in. I recommend removing the radiator, but you can squeeze into the space without removing the radiator if you are very careful. You can shop-around but $800 sounds like the norm. unless you do a DIY job and buy beers for friends.

Note that I would change all rubber seals while changing timing belt and water pump as well.
