more BC forestry road exploring :)

I spend an evening exploring some forestry roads near squamish the other night, seen here:



and then on sunday I spent 13 hours straight driving up to pemberton past whistler, and down the "sasquatch highway" which is the forestry road which runs alongside the lillooet river and lake, past harrison lake to harrison. I was going to make a loop of it but the harrison west FSR is closed in the winter it seems. The highway was snow covered north of whistler, and the 200km of gravel forestry road was nice and ice covered (but plowed) but the delica handled it all wonderfully :)

Looks like you have a pretty nice camera and a good eye, judging by the photos in your album. I bought a Nikon D80 last year that I really like. What are you using?

Were you able to get to the forestry camp at the end of the Harrison Lake from that side,and were abouts was the road closed off. Great shot too.

hey coaxial, if you like to explore squamish and pemby lots and want a buddy to come along i would love to come,me and my brother love dicken around on forestry roads (naturaly growing up as a fire warden for a father). i have lots of knowledge on local roads, special tricoony wise.
so yeah just pm me if you want a buddy and we can do alittle convoy, usualy i run with three 4 runners so id be nice to have another deli.

as for the camera questions I just use a canon rebel xti (400d) with a nice (expensive!) 17-55 f2.8 IS lens, or a canon powershot s3 is for most stuff, plastic holga medium format film cameras, even pinhole cameras and polaroids :) sometimes I swipe pro multi-thousand dollar lenses and junk from friends as well.

I'll see your Xti and Holga, and raise a Pentax 67, Bender 4x5 monorail, and 4x5 Crown Graphic.

For the non-photographers: a 4x5 monorail camera is a view camera, with bellows and a focusing hood, like something from the 1890s. A 4x5 Crown Graphic is the typical 1950s newspaper photographer camera. Both take film in 4 by 5 inch sheets. With modern film they take incredible pictures.

A Pentax 67 must be seen to be believed.

All the pictures I've posted on this site originated with my Xti. I love the look of prints from larger-format film, but have never found a way to render the reach-in-and-touch-it quality electronically.

sweet.. nice gear :) I heart large format, I've played with some very clever wooden box pinhole cameras with film paper and whatnot it is fun. The pentax 67 is sweet, we've got a pentax zx60 film slr, *istdl digital slr, and I'm lusting after a k10D

Where the blue line (gps track) ends in the second map is where the forestry camp is, and where the road was blocked. Coming in from the north end as I did it is nice and graded up until you get to the camp and then basically impassible beyond that unless the snow and ice melts off the west harrison road. Im looking forward to doing the loop in the spring when it melts. Not sure how to find out aside from going to check, or maybe calling the harrison springs visitors office as they are quite helpful there.

Question to old post,were you able to go to the hotsprings while you were there or did they have that closed off.I too will be doing the loop this spring,the hot spring is fantastic and very peacefilled ,not sure if you've ever been but you should go ,its on my top 5 best place's to relax and chill. lots of fantastic photo opps too in the forest surounding and the river is loud and in your face. anyways it's a great place. I like to do a mini vacation and skip out of work for an extra day or two or three. I know the first Deli meet was held there but i dont think anyone went into the springs. Its better at night anyways.

Maybe in the spring we should get another meet together,with all the new members now, it would be awsome to do it and maybe do the loop and an overnighter I think its $10 bucks a night but ther is so much to explore even on foot in the area ,some fishing ,(river flow pending),some caneoing at the lake ,music by the fire ,good eats and drink for those so inclined ,its a pretty cool place somthing im sure wont be around forever ,so its nice to take advantage of the all so natural that makes this British Columbia.

I've had my delica up to clear creek hot springs on the east side of harrison lake

I'm totally on board for a trip to the skookumchuck hotsprings anytime anyone wants to go. :)
