26mm Sandwich Adapter is here - along with other bits.

The middle piece just "drops" in the engine part. It appears to be steel. It is the part that screws onto the engine, but it does not directly mount or screw into the large aluminum block itself. It just sits there freely. It is the attachment point to the engine itself that will hold the whole thing on, which is why it is probably steel.

If anyone can offer me any advice as to why the filters don't match the threads I would really appreciate the help.
The specs on those filters say "1-16", which is exactly what the remote filter says! I am guessing that the actual threads don't match - but I can't figure out why if they have the same size rating from everything I can see.
I will also add, that while the Jackmaster part looks much less shiny than the remote dual filter shown here, it is better made from a machining perspective.
The Jackmaster has some scratches and is not brilliantly shiny - but it has no sharp edges and is machined properly where it counts. This remote filter has been flaking off multiple sharp bits of aluminum from sections where it was drilled and tapped. I am going to have to spend some time filing down many parts of the remote filter mount.
The Jackmaster is otherwise ready to go.
Now I need to figure out how to get some filters attached though. Otherwise I can't use this thing at all.

I'd just take the adapter into the Washington equivalent of Canadian Tire (Fred Meyer?) and try screwing on some different filters to see whats what in the butt.

All in all, a fair deal for the parts I think. He can also change what parts are drilled/attached. I got mine exactly as requested with 3 NPT ports drilled and the threaded oil pipe.

So I got myself a set of thread measuring tools. Looks like the double oil filter is 1"-12 thread, not 1"-16 thread. Which would explain why my filters don't fit!
I will be contacting Perma Cool about the threaded nipples being the wrong size.

Wow, so I contacted Perma-Cool about the mis-sized dual filter and they were incredibly responsive!
Seems that they had a small batch that had 1-12 nipples instead of the 1-16, so they got out the door wrong. They apologized profusely and quick shipped me a entire replacement piece! Not just the mis-sized nipples, but an entire new dual filter setup with the proper sized nipples!
Colour me impressed! Everyone makes mistakes, but for a company to admit them and immediately overnight ship a replacement at no cost? That is a good company.
(CIBC, I am looking at you as an example of a bad company and your moronic policy's on Self-Directed RRSPs......)

system looks good, EXCEPT for the FRAM filters.
i have had 3 filters bulge on me(their bypass valves fail), and now avoid them like the plague.
if i were you, to avoid risk, i'd goto a filter like WIX or Hastings... IMO.

So what is the design of the dual filter? Are both full flow...and if so does 1/2 the incoming volume go to filter1 the rest to filter2, or does all go to filter1 first and then all to filter2 after?

I had considered that - they had some serious quality control issues in recent years. The upside is that they admitted that they were at fault and took steps to ensure those problems don't occur again. I could go with another brand, but these filters cost $6.00 each and are easy to find. Also being added as part of this project are my gauges. I will be installing my combo boost/egt/temp gauge and a dual oil temp/pressure gauge. If the filter fails the new gauge will let me know, and I will also have more oil to deal with the problem. I actually had a filter failure with a regular Delia filter - but that was because the guys at Walmart did not check to remove the oil seal that was stuck to the engine when I got them to change it. (Not happy about that!)
They are both full flow. Half goes into one, half into the other and then back into the engine. It is possible with this sort of setup to install a bypass filter like a Amsoil one that restricts the flow a bit more, thus more of the flow would go through the other filter. But in this case, this is a $12 setup that increases the oil volume - and thus the cooling. My bypass filter will come out of the sandwich portion of the Jackmaster filter and go to my Frantz. I thought about using a centrifuge, but I already own the frantz, so that makes sense to use it.psilosin wrote:So what is the design of the dual filter? If you look at the pictures of the dual filter closely, you will see some arrows on top. Those show the direction of the oil. One in, one out. The reason you can move the plugs around is that you may want the pipes to come in and out on one side, or go "straight through" for ease of mounting options. You could have two pipes in, and two pipes out, for even more volume I guess as well.

Moving the filter allows you to move it away from the bottom of the engine where it is at great risk of getting whacked by rocks or something pushing in the bash plate. With the length of the L400 oil filter this is a pretty big risk. Since you are relocating it, you can use 2 filters as I have here. This divides the oil flow into 1/2 for each filter. This allows for better flow. This also increases the total volume of the oil in the engine, improving cooling and longevity. Another added bonus is that the remote filter that you use need not match the Mitsubishi format filter. Meaning, you can use other brands of filters that do the same job. In this case I am able to use inexpensive Cummings engine oil filters. These filters are also much easier to find than the standard Mitsubishi one.
