I hate not being able to see when backing in the dark, especially in the bush. I also hate it when nitwits behind forget their high beams are on.

Yeah, I'm not sure of that, but every semitrailer rig I've ever seen has rearward-facing spots. And regs require white lights for backing, presumably to illuminate behind as well as warn other drivers, but stock backups are laughably useless.
