1994 Strada K34 Mods
So I've had the truck for 2 weeks. Here is the list of accomplishments so far.
1. Removed lights and sirens.
2. Egr blanking plates
3. Egt gauge installed in exhaust blanking plate
4. Boost gauge installed
5. Bigger tires - went from 195/65R15 to 235/75r15. About 15% larger. This dropped my highway rpm from 3500 at 110 kph to 3000. Quieter and better mileage.
I'm backing off on the air filter and muffler removal. Egt Temps seem low and the muffler is like new, too nice to massacre with a Sawzall.
Feel free to respond you lurkers. Pics to follow!

Oil change complete, semi synthetic 15w40 from Crappy Tire. Much easier after removing the air filter housing.

Managed to get some 4" speakers in the dash ( no speakers in the holes!) and a cheap deck. Sure beats driving 100km+ a day without tunes! Still looking for a dash cubby to fill the void below.

Balanced the front tires today. I had a bit of a vibration at highway speed, of course when it is the most noticeable! After some research on the net, I decided I'd try the BB in the tire idea. Popped off the tires and broke the bead, poured 1/4 cup of BBS from CT in each tire. It works! The Science was sound and it does actually work.

Back Step - i saw one a while ago in a parking lot and thought it would be handy for reaching into the back. I also had all the materials on hand so an hour of cutting, welding, painting and we are in business!

Spray in box liner- I bought the Canadian Tire El cheapo kit on sale for 70 bucks as I'm not expecting to do any heavy work with this truck. After wire brushing the box, which really sucks, I sprayed it in with an under coating gun. Came out pretty good! I was able to get a heavy piece of rubber rink mat for free and cut it to fit. Box is officially protected.

Re: 1994 Strada K34 Mods
Installed a k&n filter a couple of days ago. I wanted to replace the 20 year old paper filter and the increased airflow is noticeable for sure. Truck is much peppier than before, acceleration is much better. I had to modify the filter I bought, cutoff the flange on the base, glue on the rubber seal from the old filter and drill a hole and reinforce the top for the bolt to tighten it on. Filter I bought was E-0773. I don't drive much gravel so thinking increased engine wear won't be a problem. Heading to the cabin with a pretty good load so we'll see if power on the hills by Riding Mountain National Park are easier to climb and if the egt numbers are lower. Great upgrade so far!

Hey Ralph that truck looks sweet. I keep an eye open for you when I am in Winnipeg. I went camping this summer at rmnp. At whirlpool lake.

Thanks for the reply! I was starting to feel like I was talking to myself! My cabin is outside of the park directly south of whirlpool lake which is a lovely place to camp. Keep us informed on your progress with the van-we should have a mitsubishi diesel get together!

K&N update - great mod, I definitely noticed an improvement in acceleration. Motor easily revs to 3200-3500 if I need to, though I usually shift earlier. I try not to bore my wife with automotive stuff but she noticed and commented on the weekend that the truck felt a little more peppy going up some hills. That's something right there folks!

Installed a 500watt Polar Pad heater the other day. It was almost too big but should heat the oil up pretty fast.
of course I can't get the picture the right way! Easy to install, this is the 5th or sixth one I've done. Works great and noninvasive, my favourite. Ralph in Winnipeg- PHIL
