Hallo all! My name is Simon, I live on Vancouver Island, and I seem to be the new guy here. Please forgive me for and social gaffs I may make (and spelling errors), but this is the first forum I have joined. I am a truck driver, so many of you have probably passed me, and each time you do I always am struck about how the JDM vehicles stand out as something different.
Several people have recommended that I join this forum as I am researching JDM products, specifically Pajeros for our next family vehicle. Now I know that a Pajero is not a Delica, and if I was thinking right I'd get a Delica instead, but I like to have the motor in front of me so if I smash into something, something arrives before my legs and feet do.
And so the research begins. I am going to have to do some reading, because I'm sure these questions have been addressed, but bear with me as I write them down! I hoping to discover the highs, and the lows to owning something different. How easy is it to get parts? Are there any good mechanics in the area that know these products and work on them? Is it better to import a car direct from Japan and hope I don't get taken advantage of, or should I go with a local importer so that I can inspect and test drive the car? Are there any dealers to avoid? Is anyone on the forum running biodiesel?
As you can see I have alot to learn, so please be gentle. well off I go to read up and see if I can find some answers. I look forwards to chatting with all of you.
Cheers.

Re: Hallo
Bear in mind that most frontal collisions are offset - which usually means driver's side to driver's side, but since you're looking at RHD here, it's their driver's side into your passenger side. Which is good news for you, less good for the passenger, but then again your passenger doesn't have the steering wheel and column which account for a lot of driver's injuries...Templar wrote:but I like to have the motor in front of me so if I smash into something, something arrives before my legs and feet do..
Also, I've never seen a Delica over here that doesn't have the bars in front, so that gives you some added protection, and if you search through all the threads in here, you'll find that people have crashed these things and they've held up pretty good.
much easier than you'd think. I walked into NAPA today and got the air, oil, and fuel filter no problem - and that's in Alberta where these things aren't as common. How easy is it to get parts?

Hello, welcome to the community!
I run biodiesel very often in my Delica. Biodiesel eats rubber, so you need to change tubing and stuff after running bio for a while, but that's the same as with bio in any vehicle.
Cheers,
Luke

Re: Hallo
When we bought our Delica a couple of weeks ago from 5Star and Glen at CCAuto we were shown a Delica that had been in a pretty serious accident, front end all mangled up, and my first thought was "this is a safe vehicle!" cuz it was completely obvious that the passenger and driver had survived nicely. There was crush happening but the space where the legs would have been was still fairly open, though the dash had folded in a bit. I figure maybe the bars took most of the damage? I dunno, but it seemed pretty safe to me.Templar wrote:Now I know that a Pajero is not a Delica, and if I was thinking right I'd get a Delica instead, but I like to have the motor in front of me so if I smash into something, something arrives before my legs and feet do.

Re: Hallo
Thank you all for the helpful insight. I must admit a bias or a more conventional lay out in a vehicle. I drive cab over trucks and conventional trucks, and afters years of experience it's a preference thing. Having said that, after reading alot of the posts here I will at least test drive a Delica.
