Camping, Lower Mainland March 21/22 2009

Post by TardisDeli »

Hi All,

Camping Trip, Lower Mainland March 21/22 2009. Probably Chilliwack area ??

All Welcome : Pets, Kids, all vehicles (RHD, LHD, 2wd, 4wd, tents, bikes, etc).

Need some campfire smoke Aromatherapy, to just sit around chatting with friends old & new, eat food, compare funky camping tools, and generally get over the cabin fever. Those who need to do extreme 4x4 can go find it, I plan to relax.

Leave Saturday 9:01 am, Burnaby, from McDonald's at Willingdon, just North of highway 1. Return Sunday evening.

You Bring: stories to tell by the fire; firewood (pick up a box or 2 or 3 from your local house construction site); a campfire chair; with an old cotton or wool blanket (@ 2nd hand store) to snuggle in around the fire and keeps the fire sparks & dew off your nice goretex clothes; your own food & water & loo paper. It will be chilly at night, so maybe add your bedroom duvet & blankets atop your sleeping bag. (I however will plug my electric blanket into my 1000 watt inverter and try out the huge new battery Jay installed that is just for me... Not part of the starting battery, this time).

We'll bring: big tarps to create a huge communal roof, saw & axe, big kettle for hot water on the fire; and marshmallows for toasting.

One idea is the BC Recreation site on the Chilliwack River, staffed year round, has toilets, cost $10.00 per vehicle. Fishing nearby.

Other ideas? Is Jones Lake road cleared yet? Rolley Lake? Fraser Islands? Derby Reach?

Does anyone want to leave Friday to hold campsite spots?

Cheers, Christine & Jay.

Two weekends ago, I went to Chehalis River camp site. The gate was wide open! The site is just off Morris Valley Road (off Hwy7). There is about 30+ camp sites inside.

Right On!

There is always Grace Lake just north of Morris Valley Road should the camp site that Sasquatch is suggesting be closed. We camped there last year ~ kind of a nice start to the season. Wherever we go ~ I'll start getting ready just as soon as I peel myself off of the ceiling. But why Saturday morning? Why not Friday evening?

Perfect timing!

It will be my little boy's first camping outing. I really want to take him camping before we head out on Easter for a 2-3 weeks road trip (just me and him :-D ) so that works great for us. Got to figure what works and what doesn't for camping with the little one.

I'm open to any location, just as long as I get to come home smelling like a chimney.

Camping, Cool!

Did someone say cookies? I will check my calendar.. hopefully I can make it :)

I spent a lot of time camping in the harrison area last summer, so personally I'd vote for something up towards squamish or somewhere, but anywhere is good really, as long as there are cookies. :M

hi everybody,

Contrary to my statements about heading up to the Shuswap on the 21/22 of March I am actually up here right now.... Had to change my travel plans for a variety of different reasons (work, overall schedule and family related....)... PS: In the Kamloops and Shuswap area everybody is still freezing their butts off.... its minus 9 this morning.... whoaaahwww....

Let me tell you that traveling yesterday down to Hope wasn't fun... there was a serious accident in the Chilliwack area... the highway was a mess...

Anyway, sorry we can't make it this coming weekend - but we hope we'll be able to join you guys sometime soon.

Kind regards
Jaz

How easily folks are swayed by cookies ... now I know that when I create my next Cult, forget the kool-aid, just use cookies.

So, I'll make lotsa cookies (even some special gluten free for Missy).

Location, Location: still to be finalized. We just need a large clearing, make a fire pit, outhouse is nice but everyone has shovels. Circle the wagons around a central fire pit, and Tarp over the roofs so we dont' get rain inside with the sliding doors open. I chose Chilliwack area as low altitude thus hopefully less snow than Squamish way.

Sasquatch-hunters' idea for Chehalis River Campground is good, I know the place, bonus gate is unlocked. I agree Coaxial, Harrison overdone by Delica crowd (but the Sasquatch Inn pub food is fantastic, Friday Steak Night $6.99, Saturday Night Prime Rib $12.95 from 5pm), nice to find somewhere new, we did Grace Lake last year (great site). Jaz, do y'all car camp or do you need a tent space? Jeff: do you have any secret places in your area? Who else lives out that way, come join for just a few hours, Tomanique etc ?

Who wants to go Friday day to bag a spot? Darkness 7pm ish.
Christine.

quite right.. the snow seems to really stick around near squamish. Most of the logging roads I know of up there are probably still snowmobile trails :)

The sasquatch inn is awesome, but chiliwack or somewhere in the valley is a great idea. I've never camped in the valley - great hiking though.

We'll be trying out the car to see how we go.

After we set our camp up we could go for a hike this time. I know most of the people from our last camping trip just like to put their food on the pedals though. 8-)
Any idea where we could go coaxial?

Secret places, no. I used to think I had a few, but they are generally filled with people. So, no. I trust your judgement on a large enough site for all of the DELICA'S.

Waiting with baited breath (cookies :-) :-D 8-) :M ) Jeff
