L300 to L400

Post by jessef »

Don't have a name yet.

Just put on some new meats : Goodyear DurTrac's 31's

so far I like them. I still prefer the Kevlar mtr's but winter is coming and I'll see how these fare. The Kevlar mtr's did great in the snow and rain.

2" lift. Nothing too major. Makes the 31's look small though :)

Very nice, did you add extra lights? I'm shopping around for fog lights and some DOT tires for my soon to arrive L400. Where did you get your tires from, and dare I ask how much were they?

Tires came from discounttiredirect in the USA. 560 USD. Compared to 840 here.

Rims came from tirerack. 70 a piece. Cheapest rims I found.

fluke that they match the gray paint on the deli.

Looks great Jesse, and those rims work very well with that truck!

All the extra room is perfect to handle any additions of younglings, well at least up to five kiddos. Babies require plenty of luggage on long trips you know. 8-)

I was drooling over that one...

as for tires... I would think that the BFGs that are on it now, if not bald, are probably fully compliant.

That would be great, but according to Mark from Brave Auto they are not DOT marked. I need them to be DOT stamped, don't I?

not necessarily, if they have the load rating printed on them they don't need the DOT mark.

To be honest though I'm surprised they aren't DOT marked being that I suspect they are the same thing that BFG sells here.

Well that would be a big bonus if I could keep those tires. They look pretty new to me, it'd be a shame not to use them.

Hey man

Passing inspection with tires not DOT marked fully depends on where you go. There are guys who will pass it with only the load rating, wheras others need the DOT stamp. Don't be afraid to ask them. Then there is no surprises for ya.

Also - if all else fails - just borrow a set of rims with tires off a buddys delica or any older toyota. The rims will bolt right on. Go to inspection and then switch them back. I'm not a dihonest guy - but tires are tires. Once you pass just run with the japanese rubber. Its all good. :D

hope it works out for ya

if they refuse to do it without the DOT stamp, and the tires DO have the load rating tell them to contact someone higher up the food chain. Brian Kangas (head of inspections for the province of BC) has stated that load rating is sufficient.

Good to know. Thanks for the info.
Hopefully our friend can get his van passed and on the road.
Take care
