L400 Spacegear Maximum Towing Capacity and Class 3 Hitch???

Post by va7cid »

Hi there;

I am new to this site and am looking into purchasing one, as soon as I sell my 2001 Chevy Tracker. I have read some of the post with regard to the towing capacity, but is still unclear as to it's maximum towing capacity.

I was wondering if the L400 is capable of towing 4000-5000 lb for a long distance at all by taking it easy??? I believe the L400 is a uni-body vehicle, should I just forget about it and get some bigger rig that can handle the 4000-5000 lb towing capacity???

Does the L400 have a build in factory transmission cooler to ease the towing process or it has to be after market?

Also, I see that E & H Hitch has been mentioned quite a bit in this site. How much would it cost for an over the counter class III hitch or to have a hitch build??

Any input or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I can't speak to the towing capacity, but a custom built E&H hitch would run between $400-$450. By all accounts the E&H hitches are very solid, but Noel over at EnviroImports said that he was able to get an over the counter Hidden Hitch to fit his LWB L400. I'm still waiting for him to get back to me on the actual part number so I can track down a place to buy it from. I gotta imagine that the prebuilt hitches will be less $$ than the custom built ones. http://www.delica.ca/forum/l400-fogligh ... -6292.html

Hi Adam;

Thank you for your info and sorry for the delay in reply to your post. It would be great if there is an over counter hitch available for the Delica.

I also know a custom metal fabricator in Richmond that works from home. He does very good welding and very reasonable rate. He made Jeep accessories such as winch bumper, tail gate tire carrier, roof basket, roll cage to trailer all from scratch including powder coating if you want.

Still trying to find out and confirm towing capacity. Thank you again

I briefly towed 4,800 or so lbs with my L400 and it felt fine. Didn't feel like a dog on the highway nor accelerating.

Taken from mdocuk

As a Deli weighs in at about 2.25 Tonnes (unladen) the maximum trailer you can tow is 1.25 Tonnes.  You must remember that any passengers, luggage, fuel etc in the vehicle increases the towing vehicle weight  and anything in the trailer also increases that weight.

Recommended is tow weight should be 85% of the towing vehicle
